Alright , sorry for flooding the board with all these monitor questions and opinions, but here are the last two finalist.

SONY CPD-G520CRT : price : 687.96 ecost.com (After Shipping) Cons: Smaller viewable screen than Samsung and the color is a horrid gray case.
Pros: higher Horizontal Scan Range than Samsung and seems to have higher recommended resz at 85hz. And its a Trinitron monitor.

pros: larger viewable screen at 20" , nice on-screen display. And it is the normal white of computer components not the horrid SONY gray. People seem to think the Sammy is better for some reason.

Well, when your PC is your primary entertainment center (especially since I cut my Comcast cable), you want a big monitor. I have a 21" (albeit an inferior Nokia 445i refurb), and would not want to go back. These deals interest me as well. Anyone else have any thoughts on the merits of these monitors in comparison to each other?
 
Why don't you check out the dell P1130 it can be had for 594+ tax with free shipping, it is 21inch FD trinitron. It is under periphials under small business.

Btw, you might wanna check if ecost is authorized sony or samsung dealer, i know they are not authorized for Yamaha. Let me know what you think of the dell deal. Oh yea it expires soon last day today!!

You cant go wrong with the Sony Trinitron.
Good stats and slightly cheaper than your Samsung.

Go with the Sony. A 19" might be in your better interest if you're looking to save some money; 19' monitors often go for ~300, less if you search this forum. I love my Sony G520, it's better than my G400. I'm looking forward to switch to LCD's when they become better, though, so I'm not sure if I'd invest another $700 in this monitor right now.

Oh , I can afford cable; I simply refuse to give any more money to the Evil Empire that is Comcast. I won't go into the details, but let's just say that the royally pissed me off. Hence, no more cable (actually, I'm surprised that I'm not missing it very much; I am actually )reading a book!) 😉

"afford" means a lot of different things to a lot of different folks. He'll probably spend more time in front of his monitor as a computer than watching cable.

Plus, a year cable kind of sucks when you don't have something to watch it on, eh?

If you wanna use your monitor at the hi-res, go for the Sony... just make sure you double check e-cost's return policy: especially with regards to shipping back if there's something wrong with it -> especially with a 21" Trinitron.

I can not afford both a cable modem and cable tv, guess which I chose? 😉 Also, tv commercials annoy the hell out of me. I can't watch more than 1 half hour show before the commercials start to get to me. Of course, one can flip the channel when the commercials come on but then I end up watching about 7 minutes each of 4 different shows 🙁. Anyway, I am much happier with a cable modem and without cable tv. As far as needing a big ass monitor, I wanted to upgrade from my 17" to a 19" (psuedo big ass). Over the past several months, I have purchased and returned over 10 19" CRTs because they all had some flaw. I finally decided that ALL 19" CRTs have imperfect convergence, focus, and geometry so I purchased an LCD. I will NEVER go back to a CRT, YMMV. Certainly CRTs have an edge in fast motion graphics and color matching, but IMHO the benifits outway the detriments of owning an LCD unless you are doing proffesional graphic work or are a hardcore FPS gamer.

To get to my point, I have my video card hooked up to my 27" telivision and this is what I watch all of my movies on. This removes the need for a huge 19" or 21" CRT IMHO and allows me to use a smaller LCD.
 
You do know that this is the hot deals forum, right? It's not the "I want everyone's opinion before I buy something forum."
 
i have heard good things about the mitsubishi daimond monitors....i think taht is what they are called, anyways, the higher end mitsubishis 🙂 they look nice and i would think they woud be cheaper than the sony. $700 is a lot to pay for a monitor but whateer floats your boat.
 
instead of buying one 21 inch monitor, may i suggest two 19 inch monitors intead?

one 21 inch monitor gives you about 200 square inches of viewable area. two 19 inch monitors gives you about 340 square inches. heck, two 17 inch monitors gives you over 260 square inches. i used to have a 21 inch nokia, but upgraded to a 19 inch sony with a 17 inch envision and am much happier.
 
Excuse me, but where is the hot deal here. I mean if you had to decide between two great deals on 21" monitors, i would understand the question, but those prices dont sound like a hot deal to me....this should be posted in another forum

they are refurbished, but i've had no problems with my g400 for over a year now...got it there for $198...s/h was expensive cause it weighed 70 lbs...

anyhow, they've got a g520 goin for about $300 right now...

Over the past several months, I have purchased and returned over 10 19" CRTs because they all had some flaw.

Thats a helluva lot of returns. Maybe it's time to give up trying to find the best deal and go find a local shop where you can see/test you monitor before you buy, before your UPS guy has a hernia.
 
I just ordered one of the Hitachi 802's from teamexcess.com. Everything I could find showed them to be decent monitors and others who have bought them from teamexcess have fawned over them.
A 21" Monitor for $219 shipped is a great deal IMO ($169 +$50 shipping. UPS shows the shipping weight is 83lbs!). And their grade "A" refurbs can be had with better warranty and return coverage for $50-60 more.
 
Which one did you find for that little? I could only find one for 229$ plus shipping bringing it to more than 280$
Also, is there are coupon for teamexess.com (could you direct me with a signiture or something) I checked jumpondeals, didn't see one,
