my pc chokes at oblivion. i'm playin ultra high, hdr on, 1280x1024. i get like ~20 fps outside :( i even turned off hdr, and it was still around the same.

opteron 165 @ 2.4ghz, 2gb ram, 7800gt :/

That's vey interesting. I have the same, but with a gig less RAM and my opty only running at ~2.1ghz and I have no prob running Oblivion at 1600x1200 with max settings. Gets a little choppy if I have a big fight (6+ NPCs), but otherwise very smooth.

I have a similar system and this seemed faster now. Wow, pretty game at 1024x768. Pretty smooth too. Have all options on except AA. Not upgrading yet :)

i'll try it with the latest betas but i'm in no real hurry to do so.

i use the 84.20's right now and i like them. oblivion performance is fine but i'd take better (obviously :p ) using these tweaks with 84.20 actually made the outdoors worse for me.

These tweaks didn't change my frame rates at all.

x2 3800+
7800GT overclocked 480 core
2GB Ram

I may try newer Nvidia drivers.

My frame rates easily drop below 20 when looking at grass. Thats the major culprit. I can get over 60 easy when in a town.

theres some more info on the OP linked elder scrolls thread.

does anyone here know what these tweaks are actually supposed to do? some over there are saying it changes the threads the cpu will have open and that its set to three because thats what the xbox is capable of.

they also say setting it to 20 is way too large.

so are there any more knowledgeable AT'ers able to break down what these are supposed to do? i understand the other tweaks like uload distance and such but these are unclear to me.

i did just realize i had a couple tweaks enabled that i thought i had changed back to default so maybe they were too much in conjuctuion with these tweaks.

just updated to 84.25 and i'll give it another go later.

I tried it, can't tell much improvement, and now the game occasionally hitches up for several seconds when outside. Back to the normal settings for me... glad it's helped a few people.

Will someone tell me what the default settings were on the ini lines affected in this tweak? I backed it up and all and ran it with the tweak for multiple days, so I figured it was fine and got rid of the backup. Now, the game will randomly go to desktop once in a while, so I would like to set the ini back to what it was. Thanks in advance.

Am suprised they dont have more tweaks. Morrowind had a butt-load and most of them really helped.
Far as I know its a new build of the same engine with everything bump-mapped and MUCH better physics.

Or maybe they already made the tweaks when they designed the new engine.

Nice tweak! Got me a few fps more. At 1440x900 I'll take whatever I can get :)

I can't remember exactly what they're called in game, but turn the "Soft Shadows" off, seemed like a big performance boost, and I don't even notice the difference!

(Unless I really look to see the difference, worthwhile trade imo)

FEAR was the same way.
Soft Shadows look like azz and kill your performance anyway.
Though I think the latest patch was supposed to correct this issue.
