Found these kittens outside my bedroom window

Hey all!

As the title states, I heard some kittens meowing outside my bedroom window a short while ago. My girlfriend went out to investigate, and low and behold she found three adorable kittens!

My question is, what should I do with them? I refuse to take them to an animal shelter, since I know what happens there 🙁 The humane society would be my next choice. Should I put them back where my girlfriend found them, in hopes that momma cat will be around to take care of them? It's not exactly "cool" weather outside, and it's supposed to get up there heat-wise over the next several days. What would be the best course of action to take for these lovable kittens?? Thank you in advance ATOT!

humane society, one local to me has a 75% adoption rate and that is overall. I bet it's much higher on kittens

I wish I could Hal. We already have a kitten and a 4 year old dog. We don't have the money to take care of 3 more 🙁 I really wish I could keep them!

Then why not put them up for adoption, craigslist or something, get them a home.

That's what I was thinking as well. The only thing is I wouldn't want to separate momma cat from her babies, if she even comes around. I don't know where she is.

Ask around in case anyone's cat was pregnant so you could return the kittens to the mom.

That would definitely be the right thing to do. I'd really hate to separate a momma cat and her babies. I know several of my neighbors, and none of them have cats. I should look a little further around though.

set em outside, let momma cat come get them.

edit: are they too young to be spayed/neutered?

I am not too sure on that. I don't know the appropriate age that a kitten can be spayed/neutered. I -think- I recall someone saying 8 weeks? From the looks of the kittens, they may be too young.

From my own experience - the kittens look like they came from an indoor mama cat. And from the sounds of it -you had no problems picking them up? Feral kittens will be very hesitant in letting anyone touch them [you have to coerce them with food inside a pet carrier - we "adopted" 3 kittens this way - the mama cat actually brought them to our house as she knew we'd take care of them]

The adoption rate for kittens is very high even at the local pet shelter and they'd probably spay/neuter them for free [which can be done as young as 8 weeks].

Good info! My girlfriend didn't have a problem picking them up. She just walked up to them, they meowed at her and she picked them up. I just hope whatever I do, it will be the right thing. I want to make sure they are taken care of, and I am keeping an eye out for the mom cat to see if she comes back. I am afraid they may "over heat" outside with the weather getting as bad as it has.

It shouldn't be difficult to find a no kill shelter or cat rescue in your town if you don't want to deal with them yourself.

Kittens/Puppies have pretty much no problems finding a home from the local shelter as people always want one of them if possible first.

Make sure they eat on their own.. if they don't you'll need to bottle feed them. We just took in two kittens in a similar way. Fiancee's friend's cat had kittens because she had gotten out... We took two. They are so freakin' cute.

Very good info Arc. I decided to put some wet food on a plate, and a little bit of milk in a saucer and put them in the big dog kennel we have. They aren't eating. I am not sure if they just aren't hungry, or they are too scared to eat.
