Well I've conviced her she needs more power so I'm making progress. She now demands a 6 cylinder. :D "honey, what does 3.0 mean? Is it better than a 3.5?"

What was really surprising is how much she liked the way the mazda drove. It was by far the better handling car (her comment was "sure footed" :Q). But to her performance is last on the list.

Oh geez... good luck.

I just hope that you don't have the same problems with the Aura that I've had with the L100. The L was supposed to be an Accord/Camry competitor when it was released, but it hasn't held up well.

What am I talking about? I know that you'll have problems with this car. I owned a '95 Saturn SW2 that was basically a good car despite the EGR valve, alternator and waterpump failing between 72,000 and 102,000 miles. My 2000 Saturn wagon was in the shop more than I got to drive it. Electrical problems, the exhaust rusted off (I bought it new by the way), the wipers stopped working. I sold it at 54,000 miles, and the person that I sold it to bought the extended warranty off me that I paid for. Before it got to 60,000 miles, the head destroyed itself and they had to put a new head assembly on it. My buddies 2001 Saturn SC2 was good until the intake manifold gasket came apart.

Our L100 was good until the exhaust resonator fell apart internally and started rumbling. Dealer thought it was the fuel pump, and replace the pump three times! The steering rack had to be replaced, and the stabilizer links were worn out at 70,000 miles. The transmission grinds when downshifting now (83,000 miles).

Sister-in-law's VUE has the same exhaust resonator problem, and the CVT grinds and pops.

Despite high reviews in initial quality, I predict that the Aura will have Saturn's typical long term reliability.

OP, from what I understand, the 2007 Mazda6 has an optional factory (probably dealer installed) iPod adapter. I put the one listed above (RPM-store) in my 2006. Works great.

Just FYI.

Is this a dealer option or a DIY?

DIY. Pretty simple to do though.

Hm... how do those work? Is it dependent on the Apple firmware? Curious to know if it would work with a Rockbox iPod. And curious to know if they make them for other vehicles :p

Thanks. That car handles great doesn't it?

Pretty simple to take out the stereo. Plug the adapter into the CD-changer port. Plug your iPod into the other end (also has 1/8" headphone jack for other things as well). Keeps your iPod charged and can change songs from the steering wheel. Really slick.

I love it. I have a V6 w/ the 5-speed manual. The manual lets me wring a little more juice out of the motor. It'll fly right past the 6500 RPM redline on the tach. The real redline (rev limiter) is around 7k or a little over. I'll generally lose traction on the leather seats before my car does on the road.

So... that's a "probably" on "Will it work with an iPod that's running Rockbox instead of stock firmware?" then?

It is an absolute deal breaker for her. No ipod input, no buy.

Wait ipod integration or aux input? Because stupid fm adapter will run you 30 bucks...

I've never used the Rockbox firmware so I can't say for sure. You might have to use the combination of headphone jack and plug. The plug will definately keep it charged. Not sure if it will allow audio to pass.

It's my understanding that Rockbox will allow you to boot into the original firmware.

I haven't tried for a couple revisions of the firmware, but I have not gotten any ipod accessories like that to work with my nano running rockbox.

I just plug mine in using a minijack cable to the AUX input and setup a playlist before I start the engine.

No idea on the Rockbox question, but they do make similar devices for other cars. I put one in my Volvo and it works great.

It will boot into the original firmware, but since you did not transfer the songs using iTunes or Ephpod, the files will not be in the proper directories with the proper database information for the apple firmware to locate them. Not to mention that if your music is Ogg or FLAC, you wouldn't be able to play it back anyways.

I have no idea if the charger would work either. On my nano, if i plug in a wall charger, it goes into a reboot loop cycle. I think the rockbox firmware only expects to charge from a computer usb port. To charge from a non-computer device, I have to start it up in disc mode by holding play/select, but you can't play anything from there.

She should have just gone ahead and bought a VW Beetle. They have iPod adapters and all the ones around here have Apple stickers on them. Oh AND they come with a little flower holder on the dash.

I bought this car in October and love it. I didn't like the panoramic sunroof so I didn't get that option. Still have yet to put the batteries in the headphones for the rear passengers though.

FYI
There is a holder in the top of the center console that you can place the ipod in and a slot on the side of the console that the cord can pass through to plug into the stereo.

The handling usually feels weird, because the power steering isn't constant but adjusts based on the speed of the car.
Just like every other power steering system since about 1985.

Variable-boost power steering is neither special nor uncommon. And it certainly doesn't make handling feel weird.

I sat in an Aura and the interior was the two-tone brown leather. It was damn sexy.

Yeah, my '97 town car does that. Full boost at idle speeds, less boost and highway speeds.

I even have a slider I can use to adjust it, but I swear the steering is so light in the car it's a choice between steering with one finger and steering by blowing on the wheel.
