Found receiver. Will it function well with the SLS Gold HTIB Speakers?

It is an Aiwa avdv75. I have very little clue about all that is audio. Many are saying that for movies the SLS Speakers are the best for the price.

Currently I have a 2.1 setup using a Vizio branded stereo bar and bass (it was free before you flame it!) I obviously expect that this setup will sound better.

I do not need the dvd player, so if I can go without getting the receiver package it would be better. Perhaps I can upgrade the bass at a later time. I want to hook up a PS3 for blue ray and some games.

However I am questioning the point of it. I recently watched a DVD Up and the on the 42 in the picture was quite clear and crisp. Will I notice a difference sound wise from dvd to blue ray? Obviously I do not currently have a 5.1 setup to compare them but am sure you guys know better than me.

Thanks for the help! I will be sure to take plenty of pictures of my setup when I finish the home theater room.

I'm trying to get the manual for the Aiwa right now. I don't have high hopes for it.

A subwoofer is the piece of equipment that produces bass.

Does the Aiwa work alright?

If it works as far as you know, maybe just use that. If you want to upgrade from it, you can get a good receiver vs. what comes with the SLS package.

For blu-ray, the vast majority of improvement should be for the video end of things. If you sit relatively close to your 42" TV, the difference should be significant.

The audio side of things is probably going to be much harder to notice.

EDIT: Ok, looks like that receiver has a couple digital inputs and supports Dolby Digital, so you have the basic functions required to hook up the SLS package.
