Found porn at a work server

You realize how bad of an idea that is?

How difficult is it to not look at porn for 8 hours a day mon-fri (or whatever your schedule is)? Are you THAT into porn?

No disciplinary action was taken as far as I know.

The worst I have come across is having someone call me that they needed help with outlook. I say ok and that I will remote their PC and look at it in a couple minutes. I remote in and she was having quite the dirty conversation on yahoo messenger. Brilliant

I think I have seen porn on computer at every office I have ever been to and this is all fortune 500 companies. I caught a guy making color copies of hardcore nude pics of his girlfriend. I looked a the pics and smirked at him and told him to wrap it up. Another place I found a bunch of very expensive (at the time) DLT backup tapes storing a bunch of porn. I was on the desktop computer of a VP in a different company. His browsing history was all this barely legal paid porn sites. Recently I saw a coworker on this adult friend finder type hook up site for gay guys (and the guy is not openly gay).

All these people are pretty successful with very respectable companies. I'm not the beacon of good morals and discipline but dam. Have a little more self control people. Regardless though, I'm not a whistleblower and frankly I don't care as long as they do their job and don't do anything illegal (child porn). I'd still expect them to stop but I'd never fire or get someone fired over it unless it was somehow detrimental to our company and people.

Not the same kind of situation, but I was helping a friend purge and update the computers in the pay-to-play LAN at his game store, and along with porn files, dozens of IM clients I had never heard of (complete with archived messages), I also found one machine that had been set up as a covert file sharing server.

I can top everyone here I think, well my mom can. She works at a retirement community, in dining services. They have a small server set up, with a few different user accounts for the various staff. They don't set quotas since there's only a few people using it. Well recently during one of the meals the server starts to get bogged down for some reason. They can't figure out why. It's messing up all the meal services for a couple days. Finally the server is basically at a stand still, the thing is completely out of space, they can't input any more records of transactions. So the techs come in, and under the matri d's account they find a couple TERABYTES of transexual gay porn. He had filled up the entire server with it. He was apparently fapping to it between meal services every day.

There have been several cases where I would VNC into a computer and they still had porn up.

One network drive was completely full so I ran a check with WinDirStat (best app ever, btw), and noticed one user had taken up almost the entire drive... They had like 20 movies downloaded through BitTorrent and the WoW Installer + patches...

Amazing, right?

I know a guy that was called in to do an audit on a large prominent Christian University. They kept adding new bandwidth and kept needing more. Found out not only was there porn, pirated programs, and the like, but they were hosting it via FTP.

Man, that's nothing. At the mom and pop computer repair shop that I used to work for, the owner was a huge porn fanatic. He would comb through customers' PCs looking for porn. Then he would stick the computer on our in-house network and dump all the images onto the server. If the machine didn't have a network card (this was the mid to late 90s), he'd install a network card in the machine and proceed with downloading the porn.

It's funny, because the person would bring their computer in, and he'd say just by looking at them he could tell if they were into porn or not. I'd say he was right about 70% of the time 🙂

Sometimes, I'd come into work in the morning, and he'd be sitting over in the corner on the server just looking at porn. It was quite odd to say the least -- especially considering that his wife also worked there (they both ran the business).

i worked at a research lab and the first offense for porn was a 2 week suspension w/o pay, IIRC. i think #2 got you canned permanently.

We have a guy at work who is constantly viewing/saving porn. He has been caught in the act by numerous coworkers (myself included). He doesn't get in trouble because he is the owner's BFF.
