Don't get me wrong here according to everyone I talk to they rock but my experience with them sucks. I had a 8kta3 which I had problems with and now bought this 8k3a+ off someone on these forums. Got it installed it. Everything powered up ok but after about 10secs everything powered back down. My heart just fell into my stomach when this happened. It took me a whole 5 mins to turn my PC back on because I was in fear that I had burnt my CPU up. Well luckily that wasn't the problem. Well I continue to go and install WinXP and once I get the the copying files screen guess what? Computer shuts down yet again for no reason. Well it done this a time or 2 before I finally got WinXP Pro installed. Well everything seemed smooth until I went to shutdown later that day then the PC just froze at the Windows is shutting down screen.
I tried everything to get it to shut down but had no luck. So I redid WinXP yet again which did fix it. After I see it is shutting down for the first time I decide to leave it off for a while. Well I come back in a hour or so later and turn it on and it showed the post screen then the system just shuts down and won't post again. The code on the diag shows C5 which is suppose to have something to do with memory.
I have tried everything with no luck. Spent all weekend trying to get it to work. I have a 300watt Sparkle so I don't think it is my PSU. I'm not sure if I should be intitled for a refund because the board seems like it was its time and I think it maybe dead. It done this the same day I got it. I have built over 20 systems in my time and this is the first time I have encountered something like this.
Nope its not the PSU unless the Epox is just picky. The Sparkle has been running my Shuttle before I got the Epox and is running the Shuttle now(which I have had for 4 months and have never had my system just power down for so reason). It didnt shut down every 10 secs. Just the first time I turned it on.
Well I emailed them Saturday and got a reply today. They said they think my BIOS chip is corrupted where the system powered down at post(didnt think it was possible)? The PC does try to access the floppy everytime I turn it on so its trying to find something. Anyway they said they would send a new BIOS chip out today free.
I know a BIOS chip doesnt cost much but they could have made me spend $20 for it. IMO they ain't to bad. Now if the board was dead totally and needed repaired thats a different story probibly. We swapped 2-3 emails back and forth with just a few mins in-between each email. But they are wanting me to send my old BIOS chip back in for some reason? I guess I am RMAing a BIOS chip I bet thats a new one?
Back when I first got my 8kha+, the video output wouldn't work at all. No matter what I did, nothing would display on the monitor. I emailed Epox and asked them what to do. To my surprise, they told me my bios chip was corrupted. Luckily, the board eventually started working after several days. Hopefully "corrupted bios chip" isn't a catch all solution they propose to all problems.
Well I told them I think the BIOS chip is corrupt. Like I said I have been all weekend trying to get it to post but it does the same thing tries to seek the floppy drive. If its not the BIOS chip I am gonna ask for a refund.
I'll post back here if it is the problem just for the curious ppl .
Yeah, they suck. The guy called them because he was having trouble with a used board that he bought off these forums, and they helped him out. Sending a new bios chip free, including a bios puller is a hell of a lot better than anything you'll get from others like Abit or even the mighty Asus. I have a dead Asus P4B266-C that was killed by Asus's windows based bios flasher. I called them up, and after getting the run around for awhile, they told me if I needed a new bios chip it would cost me $30 plus shipping. That price didn't even include a bios puller which is something most people don't have just lying around. Sounds like they were pretty damn helpful to me...oh wait...never mind...they're "dick heads"... :disgust::disgust:
