Found deal on a 19inch Viewsonic PF790... desk Q

My Comp Desk

That monitor is a 17inch Magitronic, average quality.

I'm thining of upgrading it, and a local comp shop has

this Viewsonic PF790 19incher onsale for $329(CAD).

The part that it's a refurb with 1year warranty doesnt bother me much...however....
My desk only has 19inches of height space for the monitor and the Viewsonic specs say it's 18.5inches tall....

Is that including the stand?

That monitor's pretty good too, right?

TIA 😀

329 canadian is much less than that pricewatch deal. Just checked the exchange rate and that deal is for about 207 american dollars. Sweet deal, sorry I can't help with the dimensions.

Did you fail math? 18.5 < 19.

J/K 🙂

I just busted out the tape measure. My 19" Viewsonic PS790 (from back when decent 19" monitors were $500+) is 18 inches high including 2 inches or so for the stand, so I can't imagine that 18.5 inches does not include the stand.

BTW, I think Viewsonic makes decent stuff for the money, if you stay away from their lowest priced models, so I'd bet that will be a fine monitor. I've had zero problems with mine since I bought it almost 3 years ago. It was the sharpest monitor I could find for the money, and I'm still perfectly satisfied with it, so I'll probably be keeping this one until it dies, hopefully several more years. <knocks on wood>

You might want to check the specs on the desk to see if that shelf can actually hold the monitor. I bought a desk a while back without knowing that they rated them and after putting it together, I found out that it was only rated to 50lbs while my monitor is around 60lbs. It's probably not that big of a deal as it has supported the monitor for the past 6 months or so, but I get scared every time I bump the desk and the monitor shakes.

The tallest part of that model is 18.5 inches, including the stand.. That's the very front of it, and it slopes down toward the back. You shouldn't have any trouble making it fit.

Smack, I thought it was a good price 🙂

Garfang, thanks for the measurement and recommendation. I think there might just be a PF790 sitting on my desk soon 😀

Born, The monitor board is made out of 3/4inch particle board, should support the weight. Won't know till I actually get the monitor though.

Thanks Lirion 🙂
