its gonna be tough getting win2k and a non office xp

which is why I highly recommend linux

Mandrake, SUSE, even Redhat (even if I personally hate it), debian, linspire (always a possiblity), gentoo

but i don't recommend slackware for the less experienced. It's targetted towards the more experienced hackers out there.

Win2000 would run fine on that. I have had Win2000 on a P133, 32mb RAM laptop and it worked fine for internet browsing.

You could install XP on it, but you would have to disable a bunch of stuff from the startup, and also turn all the visualization crap off.

i dont know anything about linux.
This sounds like a golden opportunity to learn. Especially considering the cost involved ($0.00, in addition to a bit of time and patience).

i think i will try an xp install (along with disabling startup options and visualizations).

you think office xp would be just too much?

i only say this because its just difficult to get any of these older OSes.

Damn it just put a bootable Knoppix Linux CD in the drive and GO! and see if you like it!

Forget XP, do you just happen to have an extra copy of XP lying around?
