Found a site that carries Akasa Amber fans.

Sidewinder has them in stock here. I hear they are pretty hard to get in the US so I decided to post the link.

Grabed one of the 120mm to replace a dying fan and to see what all the fuss is about. 😛

Yeah, saw those two weeks ago.

Do a review for us when you get it. 😀

They are ball bearing and have a tach/sensor wire. Notice too that they are all slow speed
fans, this means they will be fitted with tight fitting bearings=quiet.
The 60mm one only turns 2300rpm.

ive got a evo120 cpu cooler which uses the akasa amber fan,at 1250rpm its pretty much silent and pushes a good amount of air, keeps my cpu at 30 idle 40 load which isnt bad for 2.6gig,even at full whack its loud but doesnt have that annoying whine, just the whoosh(good word)of air getting thrown about,i think with a couple of these and a fan controller you cant go far wrong.cheers.

Well I got the fan all setup. I don't really have any way of testing it besides my ears.

A lot quieter than the stock fan I had in my sever case, mainly from the fact that it doesn't move as much air as the stock fan. That?s not to say though that the Amber fan doesn't move enough air, it keeps my system just as cool.

Now that my case fan isn't making so much noise I have found other things I need to fix. One being my fan controller. Any fan that is on it will make a loud whining sound when turned down more than 3/4. And I need to put some sound padding in and also get some rubber for the fans. My case really likes to make noise.

Also planning on modding the crap out of the case. I have alot of metal to work with!

Edit: OMG SPELLING!

Anyone else have experience with these fans?

I'm trying to decide on either the Yate Loons, Silverstone FN121's or these.

I'd like to hear about these as well. anyone have them yet?

I've also got an akasa evo 120, that uses the 120mm amber fan. It's got a fan controller with it, and from lowest setting(~1000rpm) to I'd say about 1400, I personally can barely tell the difference sound wise, with my ear right next to the fan. it's just silent, except air moving, which is completely undetectable from outside a case. Once you crank it up, it does start to hum a bit, i've tried putting some gromets where the fan and the heatsink screw together, but it still makes the noise, either way, there's very little difference in temps above the 1500rpm level(up to ~2000) so i keep it at around 1400rpm, and it's a very good quiet fan. It also makes a very good CPU cooler too with the evo 120 heatsink thing. big though. I didn't know there were availablility issues though? I got mine here in the UK no problem!

That's where it starts, brotha'! 😉

Kinda a steep price for a fan. My Coolermaster Quiet LED fans were about $6 or $7 each for 120mm with a choice of colors and they're really quiet. However, these are cheaper than the Nexus and probably work better than (drum roll please) the SilentX. A nice find on a potential alternative.

EDIT: BTW, I'm not the only one impressed by the Coolermaster fans.

Just put the Akasa 120mm in the rear of my Coolermaster 531 case. There is a Coolermaster 120mm in front of the HDD bay. Both are very quiet. It's hard to compare them because the front fan is in a more confined space. Either is quieter than the PSU fan and/or the video card.

BTW, I had the chance to try 3 Coolermaster PL12S12L fans. Black, Red UV and Red LED.

Mounted in the front of my Antec Sonata, the full black version is significantly more quiet than its bling bling brothers. At anything above 7v, the UV/LED versions will produce some droning noise that seems to be badly amplified by the chasis walls. In all instances, the fans are secured using cable ties.

If u can get ur hands on the black version, by all means get them. They have closed corners compared to the open corners of the UV/LED thuogh.

hmmmm.....so I would gather you are talking about your particular Chaisis?
I have no droning noise at all with my Coolermaster LED fans!!

well, i'm not too sure whether "droning" is the correct word to use, but the noise is probably caused by lower density of clear plastic. They are still excellent @6v though.

When tested outside the casing, the UV version exhibits more noise than the black one.

The Nexus 120mm is too expensive here 🙁
