Found a kitten on our front porch tonight.

Came home from seeing The Break Up (7.5/10) tonight with the wife and found this little guy sitting on our front porch. It startled me because at first I thought it was a possum.

He (I am guessing the sex here) didn't run from us and appears to be only weeks old. I have seen a similar looking full grown cat in the area recently. I didn't want to just leave him outside so I put him in a cat carrier with some food and water. I don't want to call animal control because I know what will end up happening to him but we also don't want to keep him as we already have a dog and a cat.

Anyone know of any no-kill shelters in the Bay Area?

I never understand these no-kill shelters. If everybody bring stray cats and dogs to no-kill shelters, won't they run outta room?

No, they just put in a transfer for the animals to go to a kill shelter.

So there's no point in no-kill shelters except buying these animals a couple more days.

It has chosen you to be it's new daddy.

Congrats.

That's kind of creepy. I say give it away if you don't want to take care of it.

Why is that creepy?

!/2 of the ones that I have are ones that showed up at my door.

I swear to God, I truly believe that my cats scour the neighborhood and round up all the misfits, strays and abused cats in the area and invite them home.

Its a cat, not a baby.

We actually adopted our current cat and dog from a no-kill shelter. They never kill the animals. There was a pit-mix there that had been there for 8 years!

I do want to take care of it as I don't want an animal to suffer... I just don't want to take care of it forver. 🙂

In my experience feral cats never really warm up. They are like vets with shell shock.

I am wondering if I should let it go and let it find its family.

Yes, let a few week old cat just "go". Keep it, give it away, or ask around your block to see if anyone is missing it.

use it? WTF?

Should I have used "Play with it" instead? Not much of a difference.

You're incorrect, there is a big difference between those 2. Maybe you've never been responsible for a pet before? All you do is take care of it, "playing" with it, or as you refer to as "using" it, is not necessary. The exception is with dogs, dumb animals really.

😕

Maybe if he had said "worship" you wouldn't have been offended?

I just ran into our neighbor and he said there was a whole family of 5-6 kittens in his backyard (right next door). He said he hasn't been feeding them and took one look at this kitten and said it looks just like the others.

Damn, I just broke up a family but I do wonder why his family ditched him.

Yes, playing with cats is not the only thing possible, which is why I used the broader term use in the first place. A cat is no different from a toy or a tool aside from the fact that there's constant upkeep on it and like a toy or tool you use them.
