The 11 snake species occurring in Puerto Rico are generally considered non-poisonous, although research has concluded that at least one species, the Puerto Rican Racer (Alsophis portoricensis), secretes venom.[29] These species belong to 3 families and 4 genera: Typhlopidae (Thyplops genus), Boidae (Epicrates) and Colubridae (Alsophis and Arrhyton). The largest snake in Puerto Rico is the endemic Puerto Rican Boa (Epicrates inornatus) with a maximum length of 12 ft (3.7 m). The diet of snakes in Puerto Rico consists of reptiles (Ameiva, Anolis, Geckos), coquís and other frogs, and, to a lesser extent, mice, birds and bats (exclusively by the Puerto Rican Boa).

Actually, I think that would keep away lots of other pests.

you don't need to have "serious balls" to be able to tolerate living by decent sized snakes. Just a respect for them. Just don't go offering a spot on your neck for the little guys to cuddle. ;)

They look non-venomous when looking at head shape and body pattern, though there are a few trickster snakes that break typical conventions. But not many...

Great varmint hunters, no need to fear them. Unless you keep small animals near it, like any favorite pet rat, guinea pig, or ferret. Small dogs, like various minis, probably wouldn't be ideal either - those snakes go a long time without food (if living under a house, not likely to go starving btw), and they become capable of killing a small dog just for the food opportunity.

BIG muthafuckin snake!

I laughed at their attempts to shove that thing into the small cage they had. I guess they finally got it done, but...wow.

I didn't realize Puerto Rico had it's own species of boa...I may have to consider scratching it from my list of possible vacation sites. (doesn't bother me, but would freak my wife out...and I'd be in deep shit if she ever found out that I knew ahead of time about them...:p

its just a snake. it won't go big enough to eat you. in fact it would be good to keep under the house. it will clear out all the rats/mice etc.

we have nothing like that here in IL. just small gardner snakes.
