OP: good man, you are doing it right.

sort of like you honestly. None of your real skin in the game and in a house in a nice neighborhood while being supported by the gov'ment.

Too many renters out there and too many desperate property owners.

Huh? I've got 60k left on a 260k 5 bedroom 3200 square foot home...

Can't have a thread with Alky without a few comments to make it clear that he's superior and someone else is inferior...

I need to find a home inspector. Going to have full house inspection, full water testing, termite, and radon.

The realtor gave me a few brochures for companies and recommended one of them specifically.

in my research so far, they have been the least expensive by about $50 or more.

The one she recommended is ASHI certified and certified radon tester with PA DEP.

Not really sure how to pick a home inspector...any help?

Do you know anyone locally or coworkers that could give a recommendation?

alky's been my personal troll since I derived enough information from him to offer 100% legit internet diagnosis of paranoid personality disorder.

So now he knows i'm after him and his tiny 'roid-head and humongous 'roid jaw.

haha.

I enjoy how he has worked almost every job in existence. I find it entertaining when he furiously googles a topic and basically summarizes wikipedia.

Carry on the fight good sir!

Your relator wants to sell houses, I'd go with a recommendation from someone you know that has had good luck with one.

Generally you get what you pay for in this. The good inspectors are going to be busy.

One thing you can quickly look at is what do they EXCLUDE. Some inspectors have a much longer list of these things.

My jobs have been mostly in banking which I started worked at 12 years old doing clerical things and computer science/networking.

For one year I interned as a Mechanical Engineer doing fire sprinkler work and HVAC. I originally was going done the engineering path, I found it too 'by the book' for me. I interviewed with MIT and Geogia Tech though.

For two+ years I was working with a veterninarian while in zoology. I was originally heading for a Pharmacy degree. I was accepted to Pharmacy school the year my ex-wife broke her neck.

I went back into banking and was immediately able to buy a house, a couple cars...it was a lucrative job. By 1999 I realized it was my career, so I went back to school for Computer Science.

Since then I did some work for a web shop, a law firm that looked for lottery winners, a medical/electronic billing company that designed paperless software.

I also work for myself a few years doing computer consulting and network sales full-time. I still did computer consulting up until recently, but my current job doesn't make that worthwhile anymore. I had higher profile customers like ambassadors and people in the movie / TV industry.

Minor jobs were chinese food delivery and a paper route I had like at 8-9 years old. I also did car detailing prior to 21, just for extra cash.

unfortunately I don't know any inspectors or anyone that has used one recently.

Is angie's list worth subscribing to?

OP, you probably missed the useful link because of my sardonic insult of Alky's constant stalking of me.

the link provided above contains both a review of the potential down-sides of angie's list and a suggestion of other free sites.

I would always double-check a personal reference (if it is personal instead of professional).

Looks great ponti! Hopefully it ends up to be yours.

Amazing you can get all of that for 149K; if those were available around here I'd take three! :D

If you're having work done, it's pretty good. Legit reviews. We made made a negative review on Angie's list about a roofer who didn't perform as well as the rest of their reviews implied they would and suddenly the roofers were ALL over us to make us happy.

Grats on the first home!

ended up buying a year sub for like $10 after discounts and codes, so it's not like it's expensive. Unfortunately it did not help with finding an inspector.

i don't own the house yet. that is all of the current owner's stuff in the photos.

Well I meant the fixtures, the kitchen, the walls. That kind of stuff. I am not a particular fan of the wood walls/ceilings that I think I saw in a few of those shots. :p

Other than the paint color on the 2nd bedroom and the stenciled sayings on the walls, I like everything else.

I'm excited about your house now. How about finishing the basement?

How do you get a basement to even work in Florida?!

Its in PA, not FL.

It's going to sit as is for awhile. After all the fees and closing costs, furniture, etc I'll be getting low in funds.

I wouldn't mind making the basement nicer at some point though.
