I run the lights and sound for our high school auditorium and have access to some rooms that most students don't even know exist. Earlier I went to one of these rooms to put away a spotlight and happened upon a full video surveillance setup, with a wireless video receiver, time lapse video recorder, and vga capable tv. The guy I was working with helped find the camera, which was conspicuously placed in the hallway disguised as a fire detector, minus the blinking red lights, a little off center, and with a little hole for the camera. I was pretty shocked to see this and am now wondering if this is perfectly legal for a school to do this without informing students or if this is some kind of privacy violation. While this one was placed in a pretty seldom used hallway it leaves me wondering if there are other cameras placed around the school as well. Anybody know anything about this?
