I called the mortgage company and got them to re-issue the check. What's interesting though is that the customer rep told me that he's going to put a stop payment on the check and get it re-issued. Me thinks that the "void after 180 days" note is not necessarily set in stone.

What's going to suck is that after they have canceled they are going to call and say they can't reissue it. Companies are pricks like that.

The money should still be in your escrow account. Call your mortgage company instead of guessing.

This. If the check was never cashed, the money is still there. If you escrow payments haven't changed, the $800 will just accumulate and roll over with the next year's payout .

The void date is a security feature on the check itself, has nothing to do with the actual funds.

If it's just an escrow check, don't worry about it. I hate it when they cut me escrow estimate surplus because the next year there is almost always a deficit requiring me to pay.

Your money should be safe in your escrow account.
