Found this little guy on the front steps of a neighbor's porch huddled in the corner:

I would have left it except that he said the bird was born *inside* his stove top oven. They brought the mother and bird outside, and the mother flew off, and was gone for a while, leaving the little bird in the corner.

Anyone know what type of bird it is or how I can care for it until I can get it somewhere?

I called the hospital and they said it was good I brought it in because the nest was thrown out, so it was considered a bird without a nest...

You mean MSPCA? What did they tell you to do with it? Are they going to come and get it?

edit - wait, is this supposed to be an indoors bird? Is the mother the neighbor's indoor bird that escaped?

I suggest fire roasting and a side order of potato salad and garlic bread.

No, it's a wild bird. Somehow, the neighbor got a birds nest in his OVEN (don't ask, I don't know him). He said he took the mother and baby and put them outside, and the mother flew off (nest was left inside).

So, have you contacted the Animal Rescue League of Boston or MSPCA?

And . . . you believe the latter part because you believe the oven part?

Do0d, your neighbor literally gave you the bird.

Train it to fly. Tough love. Have an extended montage scene. We'll make it a movie. Then I'll change the story how it's a gay bird, and you trained it to fly, it found love, then you tragically suddenly die, and both the birds carry you to heaven. A great masterpiece.

You're going to have to chew up some earthworms and regurgitate them into the bird's mouth...

You can call a local vet and ask them how to take care of it. My neighbor actually just did this with a baby robin that fell out of a nest in her bushes a fews weeks ago. I guess once the bird is out of the nest, even if you put it back in, the mother bird will not take care of it anymore. My neighbor had to feed the robin a small amount of cat food every 15 minutes for a week or something like that. She kept it in a bird cage on the front porch. It can fly now...hangs out around her yard.

Personally, I would try to take care of it. Go to the local corner store, buy some fishing worms, and see it will eat them.

something similar happened to us. i found a baby bird sitting on our driveway. on being approached, it would freak out and try to fly away but was unable to do so. so we called a friend of ours who knows all about what to do when you find injured animals and she told us about a place about 30 minutes away called The Raptor Trust. we called them up and they instructed us to put the bird on top of an old t-shirt inside a shoe box and bring it to them. when i dropped it off they said it was a baby cardinal that probably fell out of its nest and that it would be fine by the next day and would eventually be set free by them when it was time.

I found a wounded pigeon last summer and took it to the local veterinary hospital. I know, I should have just snapped its neck and thrown it in the garbage but I felt kind of sorry for it so I put it in a box and called my local Vet to ask if they knew of a place to take it. They referred me to this other place that wasn't far away so I took it down there. Never heard what happened to it...don't really care either.
