Fotron vs. Antec vs. OCZ powerstream 420/470 vs. ???

Hope this is the right forum but anyways, I'm in the market for a new PSU. My specs are:
Athlon 3200+ Winchester
BFG 6800NU
Epox Mobo
Seagate 120GB 7200.7 SATA HD
PDP 3200 w/ XBL
TT Tsunami Case
Nec 1.44 Floppy

So what kinda PSU should I be looking at, persoanlly I've been thinking Fortron Blue Storm 500 WATT or Antec Neo 480 WATT or maybe 420/470 WATT powerstream. Would these be more than enough for my rig? Which is better? What would you recommend outside these two?

Antec 480. That should outlast you

I doubt that 🙂D), but an Antec 480 should last you quite a while unless you add 20 drives.

</semantic nitpicking>

I have an Antec 430 and would definitely recommend the brand, with that said though I've also heard good stuff about Forton and that Blue Storm model looks very sweet! The cables are even prewrapped and closed with heatshrink!

ah ok, ty guys. Looks like I'm gonna get the Antec, is a little too much at this point though? My system is high-end but not that much, so its a $100 PSU overkill? Or maybe I should get a 420 Powerstream??

Since all three are good power supplies and any of them are way more power than you need, go with price. 😉

Antec. I have a 430 TruePower and can't say enough nice things. I am running 2600+, ATI vid, soundblaster, 5 hdds, and 2 optical drives. Heck, my 300w Antec was awesome as well.

Look at the warranty and the MTBF rating on the PSU. I chose the OCZ Powerstream 420w for my rig based partly on this information. OCZ has a 5 year warranty on their products and high MTBF ratings. If a company can afford to offer a warranty for this long on a product it means that they don't expect alot of them to fail.

Also, A64's are power hogs and so are 6800 series vid cards. For best system operation it has been suggested on these boards and elsewhere that you need a minimum of 24 amps on the +12v rail. If you overclock or have tons of drives, lights, etc. you need more juice from a PSU. The OCZ comes with 30 amps on the +12v rail which is more than most power supplies in the wattage range you specified. The OCZ also allows the user to adjust the voltages on the rails to ensure that they are running dead on.

Some of the older Antecs have less than operable amps available for an A64 system. If you go with Antec (a good choice as well) be careful you are getting a newer unit with a higher rated +12v rail.

The Winchester A64s/6800NU are definitely NOT power hogs. Infact, he has listed quite a low power system. You are really over-blowing his power needs. However, there is no reason why he shouldn't try and future-proof himself for the long run.

I have to take jonnyGURU 's stance on this. Go with price/looks since you don't have to worry about quality in a selection like this.

Go with the Fortron... many High-End plp choose Fortron or Enermax or OCZ better than Antecs... whith >= 24A on the 12v as some1 else mentioned... especially if ur overclocking... The Fortron 530w is a great value...

If I were you, I'd go with ??? They produce a much better quality power supply. And you can OC them higher than the others.
