Isn't "fosters" how they say beer in Australia?

Actually, it's not bad. Better than bud, coors light, et al.

I'm really digging the german Spaten beer. Stuff is soooo good.

I tried it on a whim one time, and liked it quite a bit. Better than a lot of other mainstream beers. And it's in a kickass huge can!

It's a generic lager with a pinch more hops than many of the generic domestic lagers. In other words, it doesn't really stand out or distinguish itself as being anything special.

Will I drink it, of course. Will I go out of my way for it, nope.

The "Oil Can" was an awesome deal in Gainesville. It was a huge Fostner for $1.

I like Coopers a lot better when it comes to Australian beers. I was talking with some guy from Australia once, and he was bagging on Foster's pretty bad - saying it was like the equivalent to Budweiser and crap here.

Last time I was there, it was explained to me that it was pretty much their export beer. They rarely drink it themselves.

From the people I've talked to, Victoria Bitters is the normal beer of choice. Fosters is Australian for piss.

In the US, Fosters is Canadian for beer. It is ok. My favorite real Aussie is Coopers Sparkling Real Ale. I think that is a morph of Cooper and Sons Real Ale. Not filtered with little bits of vegamite settled at the bottom.

/adding - Fosters oil cans were the thing at the East Coast Surfing Championships at Hatteras for the Florida gang I was with (NCFL dist of ESA). You could get them from the Brew-Thru at Hatteras. A drive THROUGH beer store. Two big doors on either end and you drove in and out.

My experience has been that Australians themselves generally consider Fosters to be crap that they export to the rest of the world while they drink what they consider to be good local beers.

Been living in Australia for the past 8 months, and I have yet to actually see it in a store anywhere.

I think VB (Victoria Bitter) could be considered the standard in the south, whereas XXXX (pronounced "four x") would be the standard up north. I'm getting the nod of agreement from the Aussie boyfriend off to the side here.

Fosters is the PBR of Australia. What the blokes who can't afford anything good drink.

If you can find it, try a Swan Lager. Now that's good Aussie beer! :awe:
