I browsed through the "official" Forza 2 forums over on the XBOX site, and also googled around. I found some tuning specs, but nothing like what I saw last night.

This guy on XBOX Live was going probably 250 or 260 around the Nissan oval track in a GT40 MKII. I was watching my friend race with a Ferrari F50 GT and he couldn't keep up at all, they were always gaining distance.

Anyone got any tips?

what class was he? unlimited?

high speed is going to be controlled by a few things. first is trans gear ratios. you need to have your gears tuned so that top gear approaches redline right as the car maxes out its speed potential with the current amount of power. find the point where the car stops accelerating in 6th gear before redline, and slowly inch the ratio up.

other things are basically drag and power. U999 cars usually need all the downforce they can get in corners, but if you want top speed, it's going to hinder you. and of course you want to max out your power, even if it means you have to make the car heavier to stay in a certain class- weight matters more with acceleration, it shouldn't hinder top speed so much.

Yep...the class was unlimited. After seeing a lot of threads about, it seems to be some really well-kept secret about the gear ratio tuning. I wonder if it is really anything special.

Its not really a secret. The GT40 MKII is the fastest car in Forza 2. Just max out everything and then start making your gears extremely tall.

basically you only need 4 gears. max front suspension and softest rear suspension.

btw i think the 261mph is a lie... more like 250.

You can do the same thing in S class with a GT40 if you leave the tires stock, it's called a "rocket build" in the lower classes as it has bad handling but so much straight line speed that it's tough to catch. I've got an S998 GT40 that will do 220+ easily. Never actually tried a top speed run.
