There will also be a wrinkle thrown into the car pick for this week. I won't say what it is until I have everyone's picks.

Still need

I really don't have a favorite, but just to add a couple to your list. I'd go with the A850 G35 and the Talon (I think it was A850 also).

He mentioned that it doesn't have to be something we've raced, it can be anything.

Also, I might get online and race a bit for fun tonight if anyone wants to join in.

I know we don't have to pick cars we've driven for race night but I really enjoyed the Solstice and Mini. Those turned out to be fun little cars to drive.

When you think you know what time, either post here or send me a PM if I'm not on XBL. I need to run some laps and it's always more fun practicing with other folks than it is alone.

Will do. Probably around 6:30-7:00 PM Central I'll get on, my wife's going out with a bunch of her girl friends tonight.

That should work for me. My friends and I started (finally) playing Left 4 Dead on the PC last night but we didn't start until about 9 or so, so if we start about 8EST, I can do both, woohoo! If anyone has L4D on the PC and wants to join in, we only have three right now so there's room for a fourth.

I have a GT2 DLC car in the garage so I'll check it for adj downforce. If the GT3 RS is the only thing that's going to keep up i'll need one of those from someone too, though I might play with the GT2 a bit. For my favs its going to be an S-class 914/6(handles better than the Exige) and the probably A850 STi/Evo. As far as my DLC disk if I can find another copy I will. Mine got grooved by a flying cat tackle of the 360(so my daughter claims) and its trash. My 360 is now horizontally oriented.

The GT3 RS isn't necessarily the best. I got the DLC pack that it's in just recently and after seeing the Top Gear where they drove it and a Vantage and a Superleggera trying to find the best driving road in Europe, I wanted to drive it. I didn't realize it was in the DLC pack until I was about to buy the pack (I bought it for the Challenger concept) but remembered the GT3 RS from Top Gear a couple years ago and wanted to drive it. I think I have that same GT2 DLC and I might try it and the AWD 997 Turbo, as well. I was reasonably fast around Laguna Seca in the GT3 RS (1:22s compared to my 1:20.8 S class fast lap set in the Exige a couple weeks ago) but haven't run it at any speed tracks yet. Being a Porsche and being better at going fast than turning, I expect it'll do well.

Sounds good. Blowfish, if you wanna join in you can test out the RS build. Well, anyone can really.
Except CK, of course.

Any word on when your 360 comes back, CK?

Ha...

Microsoft's site says that my Xbox has been under repair since Tuesday. I was hoping it would be completed by today so that it might be sent out before the weekend, but no such luck. I'll probably have to miss at least one more week.

You couldn't be further from the truth. Porsches are good at stopping and cornering, top speed/acceleration has never really been their forte (until the new 911 Turbo was released, 3.2 seconds to 60 changed that). Having a rear mounted engine makes the feeling different, but not worse. Although it is true that if they developed the Cayman it would soon make the 911's obsolete, but they will never do that. 911 is their (and my) lovechild.

Go pick up a copy of Road & Track and flip to the road test statistics page, you'll find most of the fastest slalom speeds are 911's (the GT3 RS held the record for ALL cars until they tested the GT2 last month, which is now the highest) and the GT3 RS was 2nd or 3rd overall for the skidpad (behind the Viper ACR). It's not a horsepower monster, I wanna say the RS is 415 horsepower right now (soon to be closer to 445 with a new DFI upgrade), but it's a very well balanced car.

Now, in Forza world where you can make a 450 horsepower Exige that weighs 1600 lbs it's true, the GT3 RS won't touch it, but in reality in stock form the GT3 RS will outperform both stopping and turning).

Sorry to be so defensive, but we're talking about my dream car here (check my XBL profile 😛 )...someday when I have $130,000 lying around it WILL be mine!!

The GT3 RS isn't necessarily going to be the car to beat, it's just my favorite and I've got a build that I really like. I tested the 997 Turbo and for my driving style I just didn't like it as much, I was only about .3 seconds off my pace with the GT3 RS after only 3 or 4 laps with the Turbo, I could tweak it and make it faster if I put some effort into it (which I very well may do). It'll be a very competitive car though, the GT2 should be as well.

Shows how much I know. I was just going by the stats when you build them. Pretty much all the Porsches I've built have much higher numbers for speed and acceleration than they do for braking and handling.

When it comes right down to it, I don't know crap about cars. Most of you guys all know far more than I do. I just like to race and drive as fast as I can.

eltsdrac, I just clicked your profile and saw that you're homepage is a NASIOC profile, are you a subie guy?

I've got (ok, that's a lie, it's my wife's...but I we share it!) an '02 Subaru Impreza WRX in blue. HRE springs, STi control arms, a front sway bar American Racing Estrella wheels (along with a few other handling bits).

I'm also a NASOIC member under the same username...haven't posted on there much though.

Wasn't trying to drill ya, but you GOTS to know about Porsche's!!! And I don't see myself ever being as fast as a Forza guy as you...although we all know it's your hax.

Yeah I have the 997T AWD, the 73 Carrera RS, the 911 3.3, and the 95 GT2, in the garage right now. I doubt the 73 RS or the 911 3.3 are viable candidates. My S-Class 914 would probably be competitive but, I'll work on the other 2 and see what happens.

Yes I am a Subie guy. Stage 2/3 03 WRX Wagon. Tokico D-Spec adjustable struts and springs, HKS Ti Turbo back, STi intake and intercooler, Cobb Accessport, Whiteline sways f/r, KartBoy endlinks and bushings around, H6 rear brake conversion, JDM Yakuza 18x8's on Bridgestone PP's. The woman drives the 05 Leggy. Looking at trading the wagon in on an 09/10 WRX 5door with the 265hp detuned STi motor and the beefed up 5 speed.

See Subie related edit in the post above. I don't have either of the 'new' 996/997 gt2/gt3/rs cars. I only have the older 1995 GT2, and the 'new' 997 Turbo AWD car.

I can give you a GT3 RS if you'd like. Dunno if I have another one that's already tuned but (unrealistically) Porsche parts for it aren't terribly expensive.

You've got alot more done to your WRX than we do. We bought the car this past March from a guy who had it as his wife's track car, which she very rarely used. I forgot one big upgrade, the reason it's got the other wheels on it. It's got Group N brakes w/4 piston calipers up front and Legacy Turbo brakes w/vented roters in the rear. It's a blast to drive, it had low miles on it when we got it.

HMM Group N brakes...what color are they? They might be the JDM v7 Bugeye STi brakes escpecially if the hubs were swapped for the larger bolt cirlce STi based wheels. I have the same upgrade in the rear(the H6 is the LegacyGT/Tribeca setup). Your call on the RS. i saw one for sale in the AH ending tonight but the buyout was high.

Figured I'd bring this foward.

Week 21 Jan

Porsche 911 family at S998, with no restrictions.

I think this all of them including the DLC cars:
1973 Carrera RS
1982 Turbo 3.3
1995 GT2
2004 GT3 (996)
2007 GT3 (997)
2007 GT3 RS (997) - DLC
2007 Turbo (997)
2008 GT2 (997) - DLC

If you can join in on some practice tonight, I can get a car to ya. We'll have to be online at the same time so you can pull it off the auction house though.

I wanna say the front brakes are black with Subaru written in silver/grey, I'm not positive though. They certainly work quite well...the calipers are big (as you said, why he needed different wheels, the calipers wouldn't fit under the stock wheels).

Should be a good nice of racing! Wish there were more options with Aero all around. I'd love to run a 996 GT3.

The black calipers(there was a red version also the we got on the 06/07 WRX in the states) are the standard non-Brembo JDM 4 pistons the std WRX 'double 5-spokes' from 02-03 w/n clear. I can try to be on tonight after 7pm PST if that isn't too late for you.
