Correct, Max PI would be B700. You can be short a few pts depending on the car and part choices, but you can't go over that PI limit.

Thanks guys. So, I guess it's just a juggle between handling and speed, since I obviously can't add everything.

I called my local Toys 'r us and the $49.99 is the instore price as well. I have the last one in the Seattle Metro area on hold. All the other stores are sold out (all 6 of them). Unfortunately to order it online with shipping and sales tax its about $70.

i built a grip car (aussie GTO) with the lowest race tires, 1:29.54 is the best i can do in RA. it isn't the nissan but i think it will do.

watch out for oversteers.

Personally I don't much like the wheel. I've got 2 of 'em (first one broke when knocked off couch, a whopping 14" fall or so...). I'm a much faster/more consistant racer with the pad.

That's why I haven't gotten one. I don't have anywhere to put it and I know I can't just sit with it in my lap.

I thought the Microsoft wheel was designed for the lap? Not saying that helps you any or makes the device any better, but I'm pretty sure it was designed for couch sitters instead of desk sitters (i.e. PC wheels).

Well, it was designed to "allow" you to put it in your lap but I promise it works MUCH better bolted down. I tired using it in my lap for months and it was OK. Broke it accidentally and used my controller once and my lap times dropped by 1-2 seconds/lap on the first day...

It was designed to sit in the lap but I just find it uncomfortable and awkward.

It's a me issue.

if it has force feedback it most definitely will NOT be going on my lap. I haven't gotten it yet btw, I am going to tomorrow and then to target to see if there's some solid camping table.

I picked up the wheel last night. It was too good a deal to pass up. I have to work on my setup though. My couch is too low for the pedals to be used well. Also the lap for me is out. @ 6'4" 300ish my lap apparently is above average and it doesn't fit properly. The two 'wings' hit me in the mid thigh. One of the old wheels I had had kind of an inverted T shped mount that you put under your thighs that the wheel mounted to and that was ok. My coffee table does not have enough of a lip to use the clamp either. I have to apply the settings Greg posted long ago in this thread which i finally found. Sorry to bug those of you I messaged on XBL last night as I couldn't remember who was using the wheel or not. The default force feedback setting is so strong it about ripped it out of my hands! I do however love the pedals. With all that travel it is much easier to modulate braking and throttle control in the corners than it is using the buttons on the regular controller. I started off using the triggers for gas/brake but there is not enough resistance (for me anyway) to have much more control than the buttons provide. So if I can just get the wheel attached to the right piece of furniture and tweak the settings I think it might just work out.

I picked up a wheel as well. I didn't want to wait for Toys'r'us so I scoured CL in my area and found a decent deal. It took me a while to get used to it, and you cannot use it while it's sitting on your lap. It's just too difficult to operate the pedals and have the wheel be moving around ... I was not impressed with it at first. I came up with a ghetto setup to hold it down and my lap times started to improve dramatically. It's much easier to control the cars now for me than I was ever capable of with the controller. I'm no longer fishtailing all over the place and my steering is much smoother. I always had a hard time braking properly with the controller, the wheel/pedals make it much easier. I'm going to build a stand sometime this week so I can clean it up a bit.

edit:

Here are some details for the stand if anyone else is interested:

I bought a bunch of Supercars at below cost =P (Enzo, Saleen, SLK-CLK, Skyline Nurs). On top of that my 355s are selling well. Look out for a new cat!

You gonna come race with us? New drivers are welcome. I would also suggest searching this thread for "wheel settings" and tweaking your wheel setup. The default setup has way too heavy a steering feel, and the force feedback and vibration are set too high IMHO.

If time allows I will. I still need to renew my XBL account. My wife and I have a toddler that keeps us pretty busy. Her bedtime is typically 7pm after which I have to do all the day to day stuff. I would love to join though, so I will keep the offer at the forefront.

Can you link me to the settings for the wheel so that I don't have to search for them? Assuming you have them handy, otherwise I'll just scour ... trying to save myself some time.

I added a detail drawing for the stand if anyone would like them. I can't take credit for the 'idea' as I found that on another forum. but I did do the drawing since alot of peeps were asking for it.

I like the cockpits you linked, but its too elaborate for me. I play in my "theater" (more like my media man cave, and it needs to break down quickly and be out of sight for when I watch movies or have company.

EDIT: OSJ -- Thanks for changing the schedule.

Here are the wheel settings Greg posted for me a while back.

*chirp chirp*

Probably won't be there tonight. I think I'm officially moving myself to the "once in a while" racer. Some nights I just REALLY want to race and some nights I want to do other stuff. Expect me every other to every third week, maybe once in a while consecutive weeks.
