Whatever you guys do, don't check the Road Atlanta S-class scoreboard filtered for your friends list. Just don't do it!

edit: but If you do you may notice a trend

HAH! I don't even know how so I won't get to see your awesome time! That means it didn't happen.
😀

Gee, I wonder what car everyone's going to be using tomorrow.

Gee, I wonder what car everyone's going to be using tomorrow.

Not me! I might have set my new lap record with it but that (for me) was a one time lap. It's a super fast car but it's not very consistant/easy to drive, at least not for me.

And considering you set a fast lap with your car after what...2 practice laps? You'll keep up with 'im.

I saw your time two or three days ago Arby and cringed.

Agreed. That damn 1:16 is just taunting me!! I am at 1:17.2 and wondering what the hell I have to do to shave off another 1/2 second!!

Ehhh the key is to be able to reproduce my 1:17.2 for 4-5 (or is 12 for RA this week) laps, that will be the important thing.

Anyways I am done ... see you girls on the track tomorrow night 😉.

A keen observation:

There's no doubt in my mind that racing with you guys has made me a better racer overall, but I think having competition as stiff as it is has made me "outrace my rank."

I wanna say that typically I run around a "Beginner (14)" or so when I race with you. I've never put much stock in TrueSkill as it is...I consider myself a decent mid-packer against you all at best. Well, whilst trying to complete my "1,000,000 online credits" achievement I did some public races. I raced against quite a few Pro and Champion ranked guys and I gotta say most don't hold a candle to an Arby or OSJ or blowfish, etc. I was a constant frontrunner against guys with nearly double my rank and 5x as many races under their belt, to the point that I was kinda curious how they got their rank.

Methinks it's not the number of races, but who you race against that will determine how good you become. Constantly having my butt kicked by you has forced me to adapt and increase my speed.

So...yeah, methinks most of us, should we only race public, would be ranked quite a bit higher than we currently are.
I think there's probably a pretty fair bit of truth to this. I've only raced with the public a couple times and did okay. Some of that was nerves. I'm a lot more relaxed when racing now that I've got plenty of track time with other cars nearby and I'm pretty comfortable riding someone's bumper. Just comparing our positions on the leader boards, I'd say that we're all probably better than our ranks say we are. Many of us are in the top 5000 or so for our fast laps on tracks, but if you look, there's like 300,000+ lap times recorded on the track. Granted those are only hot laps and racing's a different animal but even so, I think most of us are capable of running within a couple tenths of our hot laps during races. I suppose what we need is for someone to venture outside and run a bunch of races and get ranked for real and then bring that "new blood" so to speak into our group so we can restack ourselves based on some external number.

So tonight I jumped from beginner 5 to beginner(8) in 5 races. I stumbled upon a room where there were 6 players from a 22-30 rank and it had been going on for some time because several of the players had 2-400 points. They were running one 5 lap race after another @ the oval speedway with supercars . One player would pick a slightly slower car and everyone else would pick the 66 GT40. Everyone else would finish in a pack, and the single driver would usually finish last but only by a short margin. They did this over and over. I snuck in with an exceptionally fast FXX Ferrari I had built the night before and managed to do pretty good until they started wrecking me. So after 5 races I had gained 3 rank points.

I might race with the public but the couple times I've actually done it (trying to get my million online many moons ago), people either wrecked me or were complete tools because I didn't pick a car and ready up in under 2 seconds after they changed the allowed cars. I would be curious to see how I do against some random lobby.

I had pretty good luck in the rooms I joined. A few notes, never join a race at Nissan Speedway or Motegi Speedway, never join a room with car class as "Any, U, or No Race Cars" (meaning, pick a room that has a defined class that's other than U), and if you join the room and it sounds like a bunch of 12 year olds yapping just leave rapidly.

I met a few really nice guys while racing, a few of which are now on my buddie's list (class acts who say "good luck, good racing, sorry I did that, coming in on your left," etc). Then again, as you said I met some people who annoyed the crap out of me (Come On, how do you wreck me 3 times in 1 race!! Grrrrrrrrr!). But yeah, there's just certain rooms you wanna steer clear of.

The ranking system is interesting. I can't quite figure it out but I believe it has to do with the competition's ranks and where you place comparatively. Before we started the Forza nights I would race quite a bit in the public rooms. I hit a wall around Trueskill 28 and I just couldn't push passed it. When I started looking at my competition it was hard to find anyone above that. When I finally did find people in the mid 30s and above (it goes to 50) I would get my ass handed to me and my TS would never really go up. The only way I could raise it from there was to beat them and I just couldn't do it at the time. Of course, I've never been one to run leaderboard cars just to run them.

Now I bounce around between 20 and 21. I believe they wiped the trueskill ranks right before or right after we started the Forza nights and I've never been in a public room since. 🙂

The plan for tonight (since I'm da boss!):

1) Sebring 5 laps
2) Silverstone 4 laps
3) Tsukuba 8 laps

4) Maple Valley 5 laps
5) Sunset Inf 6 laps
6) Road Atl 12-15 laps

7) Suzuka 5 laps
8) Mugello 4 laps
9) Laguna 6 laps

10) Nurburgring 2 laps (*bonus* yes, just to be mean...and for Arby). This is only if we have time and have the number of people to run this. I figure by this time alot of people will be finished for the night.

Every group of 3 races each player from each team must sit out once. It doesn't have to be every 3rd race, just for ever cycle of 3. OSJ might decide that he doesn't like Tsukuba or Maple Valley, so he can sit out those 2 in a row since they're in a different cycle. Likewise he can race 5-8 if the team decides it. It's a team decision, coordinate!

I still haven't had the time to try out my car for tonight....at least it is already tuned and everything. But I'm likely to be a mess driving tonight.

OK, I already got my first PM of confusion about the tracks.

1) Sebring 5 laps
2) Silverstone 4 laps
3) Tsukuba 8 laps

4) Maple Valley 5 laps
5) Sunset Inf 6 laps
6) Road Atl 12-15 laps

7) Suzuka 5 laps
8) Mugello 4 laps
9) Laguna 6 laps

You have to be out of ONE race from each group, so you have to sit out either Sebring, Silversone, OR Suzuka, then the next group you have to be out either MV, SI, OR RA, etc.

You don't miss out on an entire group at a time.

Your attempts at fairness are really bothersome when you group 3 of the tracks I like the best in the same group. 😉
