Saleen S7 can be made to an S998 ^^

I think I'm gonna use a Vette. Z06 probably, Ligenfelter would be nice but I think it starts so close to S998 that I might have to forefit better brakes and such. Anyone else planning on using a vette? I'm horrible at tuning so mayhaps I can copy your notes/tunes ^^

I wouldn't get too hung up on trying to run a competitive time just yet, I don't think. The key to being fast is being consistent more than anything. If you can learn the tracks (which just takes time and repetition) and do the same things lap in and lap out, you'll be doing well. Speed comes with time. My advice would be to work on staying on the track and just being smooth.

:thumbsup: :thumbsup: Listen to this advice ... read, and then read it again. This is the single most important thing about this game. You can take this EXACT thinking and apply to ANY car in the game and you will perform well.

I can tell you that in practice I can quite often run good lap times but once I hit the track in a race with 7 other guys that is out the window. MANY things come into play here that will just throw things off kilter. Prime example is when you are behind someone and they break before you do or before you normally do ... this throws your routine off and you have to react quickly to avoid collision. I can damn near guarantee you if you run good clean lines and are steady (say 1:35 - 1:40 every lap) you will NOT finish last. While others may run 1:30s on several laps but then we wreck or get caught with some slips and hit the dirt a few times all of the sudden we throw in a bad lap or 2 and guess what your steady racing brought you right up into the mix.

The ability to be clean & steady IMHO far outweighs the super fast laps. My goal as I continue to play Forza is to run as steady a race as I can. The fast laps will come but if I can race a whole race nice, clean, and consistent I am very happy regardless of what place I finish.

Example -- Heavyweight week I finished 3-6 almost every race. I had 1 2nd place and 2 7th or 8th place finishes the rest were smack dab in the middle. To me that was a good night of racing and I walked away satisfied.

Mini week -- Similar to the heavyweight week only I managed to get 2 seconds and my first WIN 😀. Most other finishes were 4-5 but I had several 8s in there so while getting my first win was awesome I did not have consistency in my driving. I loved mini week btw. Domino's did deliver that week baby, LOL!!

It's all about good clean lines. Waldo will tell you that, OSJ will as well. If you learn this you will be in good shape. FYI this only comes with practice -- no car will give you this! I will say that having a car that handles well for a newbie is much better option than a car that goes balls out but is a bear to handle.

Be sure to get some advice from everyone on an S-Class American car that handles very well. If Waldo can get the Eagle Talon to S-Class as he mentioned I would almost tell you to use that as it would give you some good control. It may lack in speed but you will be able to race in that car regardless of your skill level.

Learning the tracks is the biggest key to any racing game. If you know the track then you know where to be out of each corner and exactly what speed/gear you should be in for the next. Learning the tracks should always come first and then you can overlay any car onto that knowledge to get good, consistent times. Hot laps are not what win races but clean laps are. Also, as Greg said, once 7 other people are on the track hot lap times are thrown out the window. You have to race your race and make sure your race doesn't collide with another's race to become a steaming pile of car parts. 🙂


When we first starting doing Forza Night everybody was all over the place. CKRanger had it out for me every lap and Spidey would get so mad about his car not doing what he asked that he went out and bought a steering wheel. 🙂 With time, we all have improved our racing skills and now it is a highly competitive race every time the green light hits. Just stick to it and the skills will heat up so to speak.

Greg & Waldo are exactly right.

I'd guess that if you ran a clean, consistent race you'd probably end up 3-5th every single time...as long as your lap times were "average" for the group.

Racing behind someone is very difficult since they probably don't have exactly the same line or brake points...adjusting and keeping up is very difficult to do mid-race if you've been driving solo most of the time.

So true. I'll blast through a lap or two and be in 1st or 2nd then do something stupid and end up 7th or 8th. Happens all the time for me. Consistency is the key.

Definitely spend the time running hotlaps to learn the tracks but as stated, running in a race is a different animal. Dealing with traffic and different racing lines and braking points, all while still trying to be fast, is such a huge challenge. Following close behind or going through a turn in close proximity to another car is a skill that just takes time to develop. I think I'm getting the hang of that, though. There were a few times where I pulled a Waldo and was right on someone's bumper for a while. I know I was tailgating CK something fierce at Suzuka. 😛 I'm not sure on this, but I don't think I caused any major wrecks this week, either. Woohoo!

Tailgating someone for a few laps is a lesson in patience. Sometimes the cars/drivers are so evenly matched that catching up to another car is hard, but passing that car is near impossible. Waiting for that one slip up can take forever so I use tailgating as a tool to try to force an incorrect line or to miss a braking point. Unfortunately the last few times I have tried, it is me missing my line or braking point. 🙁

I get nervous when Waldo tails me and spend more time looking in the rearview mirror than the track which usually ends when I miss a corner and slam into a wall. I usually just pull wide and let him go by while muttering obscenities under my breath. ::shakes fist at Waldo::

You really should watch that reply where me and you were on Road Atlanta. We were in curves two wide, shooting behind each other, picking different lines and still managed to not touch and you had a great pass.

Chorb - don't worry about a car behind you, just drive like they aren't there. 😀

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that I saved a replay of that race. Either that or its corrupted. There'a replay that says it was saved the other day but the race was like 4000 laps or something ridiculous. I haven't even tried to play it.

I was on blortov's tail for a few seconds at Maple Valley. I don't think he let me by, I'm not sure what happened. I think I kept a replay of that.

Believe me I have considered turning off the rear view mirror more than once as the race up on to my bumper thing does rattle me. Hell seeing any of you guys in my rear view (close or not) tends to mess me up.

My biggest issue in Forza is what's know as the Michael Jordan affect -- this is when I get too tied up in watching you guys race that I don't watch my line or my throttle control and I end up going off track and I'm now out of the race. This is most prevalent when I am in the middle of the pack. If I am out front I tend to do ok until I just make a dumb move.

Any tips on taking that left hander in road atlanta? It's near the front of the course where you go downhill fast and then quickly up hill left turn. That always seems to screw me up.

Keeping the car as balanced as possible prior to the turn is the key. Then you can brake evenly and get through the corner without the car's ass going wild. Go easy on the throttle until you hit the rumble strips on the right hand side with your right front tire then you should be good.

Yeah, braking early is the key. Go to youtube and watch the ALMS guys do it. Been a while since I've seen it but if I remember correctly they brake early and accelerate through the entire turn.

Its only Waldo that gets me all jumpy, he is usually about 4 inches off my rear bumper and some how never hits me. OSJ you are usually a bit further off my rear, but I still get nervous.

I just did a 1:26.264 on MV in an S998 American car. You guys should not have turned me on to this track, I always hated it but probably just because I hadn't practiced it much.
Does everyone have Road America and Motegi? They are both fun, especially motegi.

Dang, that 1:26 was with my own creation, a Dodge Stealth. I had a Saleen S7 prior to thi as one of my cars but it wasn't as fast. But now, it's faster. I don't like using weird settings but this S7 just ran a 1:23.052 on MV.

Spidey - To get the DLC, you go to the marketplace blade on the far left of the dashboard. Then you go to all games. Then select forza 2 from the list. It then shows you the list of DLC and their associated prices. I forget the cost now as it just shows a check mark.

I did a 1:22.119 in the S7 on Maple Valley

1:20.789 on MV in the S7 - I did a 1:20.3xx but it was in the tune up run in career mode which doesn't post to the scoreboards =)

You've gotta pay for it. RA is 100 pts, Motegi is 400, the DLC cars are 400 for the packs and 50 for the Peugeot.

You've gotta pay for it. RA is 100 pts, Motegi is 400, the DLC cars are 400 for the packs and 50 for the Peugeot.

But in the same list there are some free cars. Those are worth getting if only to make sure you can see the other DLC cars if any of us use them.

Well so far I've tried out a 2002 vette, doesn't react like i want but I think that is the tune. Still too loaded on speed/power and not enough grip 6.2 or so where it matters for me handling and braking.

I think I've identified what I want in a car - light weight, decent acceleration but most importantly handling and braking. So far the 2002 vette I've got is too much speed/power. We'll see. Something with better handling would suit me better.

I did manage to download the track pack, thanks all.

I'd say the R8 falls into that, but you need to buy it in a Car Pack. And I'd join you, but I have no 360 to play on... 🙁
