I'm going to have make the time and go to one of the upcoming events.

Road Atlanta is a blast man. The Petite Le Mans is a great race to attend.

You'll still be faster than me Randum...from my first experience I can tell it's not about skill, it's about having fun (which may mean running Spidey off the track...uhh...unintentionally 😛 )

this guy learns quick

While you guys did manage to run me off the track almost every race I still would work my way up to the front. So it was still fun and I brought some skills.

One quick lotus comment - I added .2 and .1 negative camber to F/R respectively (meaning MORE negative camber) and liked it if anybody wants to play around with it. I may get some more track time with it to compare times, but it "felt" better. Playing around with the ARB could yield some good results as well.

About the fun aspect, while we don't really know each other there is a mutual respect and nobody acts like a dick. Makes for fun racing.

Agreed!!

As most will attest I am probably the "loosest" driver (I won't say worst) that all of these guys have raced with (not just from here). I have very little time in the game compared to most of them but that doesn't matter to them or me.

I got in this to have fun and man I have a great time every Wed. So much so that I actually look forward to Wed nights each week.

I will say this though, in the 4 weeks (has it been that long) I have been doing the Wed night races I think I have improved a fair bit. The first week I finished last EVERY race and Spidey and some others would often get caught in a wreck, realize they were out of the hunt for first and thus wait for me to catch up and we would race for last place. Hell even that was fun!! Fortunately for me I have been able to every so often pull off a good race or 2 and finish higher up (best finish so far has been 3rd with some very close shoot outs to get to second like last night with Waldo). Hell last night I even led nurburing for I think 5 mins and I NEVER thought I would lead a race ever!!

I can tell you that learning when to get on and off the throttle is key (particularly with last night's Lotus). Each week I learn a little more and it is rewarding. No matter how bad I do I still go at it for fun.

4 weeks ago I didn't know anything about these guys at all. My saga began purely from the stand point of getting the MS wheel from my wife for X-mas and instead of just using it on the couch etc like most folks I said screw it and went a little nuts with a full dedicated race setup (driving seat, buttkicker, 5.1 surround etc). It wasn't cheap but it wasn't go to the poor house either but I gotta tell ya it's been worth every penny. It has made the racing experience a ton of fun.

BUT w/o having decent guys to race with it would REALLY SUCK!! And to the best of my knowledge not once has anyone in this race group got pissed at me and wanted me to never come back or threaten to come kick my a$$ no matter how many times I have spun out, gotten in the way, stole their line, wrecked some one with poor driving etc.

dramatic pause for all the obscenities and heavy objects about to be hurled my way

It really is about the fun.

Greg

EDIT: And if you want to talk about fun you should have been with us about 2 weeks ago in the Eagle Talon night for the MAJOR crash up on Maple Valley. Scroll back in this thread to see a great pictorial from CK on it but just to be there in the crash was completely nuts. We've had some good ones but I am not sure there have been any better than that Maple Valley wreck(this does not account for races before I joined in)

Queasy, 2 requests. First, since alot of people's AAT name is different than their XBL name, could we have their AAT names added to the list of their XBL names on the first post?? And second, could ya add me to the list as well??

Nother question for everyone, I read (somewhere) that you can mail tuning setups to people or something like that...any clue how that works? Or maybe it's off of fast lap people, I can't remember...

They might be talking about gifting cars with tuning setups attached to them. You can also (sometimes, depending on if the player has allowed it) download setups - and only setups, not the car nor the parts needed to build it - from the scoreboards.

I think this may have been brought up in a previous post somewhere in this thread, but I'll post it again. I copied this off the forzamotorsport forums:

cat and mouse is easily one of the best games to play on forza2. this is how you play. there are 4 teams. 2 people on each team. 1 person with a u class car, and 1 person with a decided slow car. the track best for this is nurburgring. the slow cars race and the fast cars protect their teammate and crash the other teams slow cars. the first slow car to finish wins. it is best doing 1-3 laps but you can do more. its a lot of fun because unlike a normal race that people crash in, you no the other teams will crash too and there are always lead changes. sometimes every one in the race gets into a big pileup.

it might be fun to try a few times to mix things up, or run it at the end of the night as to not waste racing time.

I played it a lot with PGR3. It's a nice diversion and later in the night might actually give me an advantage. 😉

Yea, they actually added it into PGR4 as a real game. In PGR3 we ran that more than we actually raced. Was very fun. Not sure how it would work in Forza with all the crazy physics and stuff but worth a shot!

Alright I've been working on the Z28 for a while tonight and believe it or not I think it handles pretty well but I think the things I have done to it have killed the speed.

I have it a B700 level - primarily upgraded tires (compound and width), springs, trans, aero, brakes, suspension etc and took some weight out. To move it up to B700 I added a supercharger and tweaked a few small items like the clutch, diff, etc.

Tuning I took some Forza forums info and jacked the sway bar to max for the front and 0 for the rear. Lowered rear tire pressure to 25 (from 30) and left everything else the same.

The car really does pretty well in the corners (not like the lightweight ones we have been using) but it's accelaration and overall speed feel really hampered. Hopefully OSJ has some feedback on the one he is working on and perhaps we can come up with the right settings together.

Just thought I would throw out an update.

Hopefully tomorrow I can toss out the specs to let you guys run a few laps and give me some feedback which I REALLY need.

BTW I reviewed 2 replays tonight from last night's racing.

Road Atlanta -- Waldo vs. blowfish final turn. Waldo was trying to stay wide to keep clear of me and finish. I pushed hard on the inside near the stands and Waldo ended up creeping up close to me. I pushed a little harder and actually clipped his left side in the very back causing him to spin in to me across the finish line. Good little finish but the last second spin was my fault, oops. Waldo still got 2nd instead of me though.

Nurburing (Spidey won't like this) -- OK I looked at this from several angles to be sure because there were 2 Waldo/Spidey incidents.

#1 -- This is when I was making the pass on Spidey to the outside with Waldo tatooed to my a$$. Spidey made a turn a little wide and I dove inside (Waldo in tow) and called "on your outside" coming down the straightaway and Spidey said take it. I pulled ahead and Waldo came right with me. As Waldo got right next to Spidey the course got tight and they moved closer together. Waldo pulled up ahead with just the last inch of his left side near Spidey's front end, Spidey moved maybe a millimeter and clipped Waldo's left side spinning him out. Spidey moved ahead.

#2 -- Spidey is truckin' along pretty good in second and Waldo comes up out of nowhere. Waldo then does his patened "glue job" onto Spidey's rear bumper for what seemed like forever. Waldo then took a turn a little too slow and Spidey was able to pull away but then Spidey slowed too much and too quick on another turn and Waldo kept the coming with little time to stop/slow down and hammered Spidey hard. Spidey spun all over the place and Waldo jetted off to an eventual win.

Spidey got the worst out of the 2nd incident compared to Waldo in the 1st.

Anyway that's how I saw it so don't shoot the messenger 🙂

I made one that's basically all the handling upgrades plus racing slicks and the widest tires possible and maximum downforce. I think I put on two of the horsepower mods to bring it to B700. I agree that it's not the fastest car - it's only slightly faster than the Lotus at the top end but takes longer to get there - but if we're all using a slower car, it should work out. The Talon wasn't that fast but made for good racing.

It handled pretty well, I thought, in the short time I messed with it. I hardly ever broke it loose. Didn't really push it too hard but was doing low 1:33s at Laguna. That definitely seems slow, considering we were running 1:25s in the Lotus yesterday.

Agreed. Regular 1:36s here which is on par for me considering the speed of the car. I messed with the gearing a little and definitely was able to pep up the accelaration (essentially moved the Final Ratio up so you spend less time in each gear). Overall I wasn't disappointed with the car. It sure as hell won't stop like the Lotus though so beware of that in the turns.

Basically max out the tire upgrades, handling upgrades, and aero and you are 90% of the way there.

I would imagine that tinkering with the gearing some more (perhaps the diff and camber as well) would help some more. Again I am fairly happy with the handling but would like more speed (accel and top end) but not sure there is anything we can do since the car weighs 3000lbs vs the Lotus from last night was what 1500lbs??

GCS - I was trying to tuck in right behind you. Didn't know you had waldo in tow. On some of our practice runs with previous races drafting really does make a difference. Nice description and racing with dead even cars like this makes every mistake that much more apparent.

I run in-car view so I don't really see you guys but try to pay attention to where you're at using the views.

I found that it actually stopped pretty well. Not quite as well as the Lotus but I was surprised how well it stopped. I think the speed and acceleration are going to be limited due to the weight. Like you said, it weighs twice as much.

Very accurate statement!! And yes with equal cars at this speed minor movements can have major impact.

I drive first person as well and like you can't see the people on the sides. That's where the multi-monitor set up would super useful.

I concur. Spidey started it and I finished it. Bwa hahaha! In all for reals though, they were both complete accidents. I know Spidey didn't mean to take me out and I certainly hope he knows I didn't mean to take him out. The narrow passing lanes on the "Ring" make it almost impossible to make a clean pass with both cars remaining on the pavement.

About the Z28, sounds like fun! Post a setup when you can and I'll try to help with the tuning this weekend if I get the time. Thanks for stepping up and filling in the gap for this week GCS and Skinnee!

Yeah, I can look at what I've got this afternoon. Trying to sort out some crap this afternoon but I should hopefully be able to post the setup I made in a few hours. I got it running a little faster last night and the only thing I changed was the gearing. It's running mid 1:32s now. Not as fast as the B700 Mustang but it's okay. It's pretty tight driving it. I was sort of hoping it'd be looser and a little more wild 😛

All the top engine mods and no handling/brakes/tires/aero mods, or add aero mods and make the downforce 0% Bet that would loosen it up just a wee bit ^^
