OSJ and the Supra are going to be the pair to watch at Laguna next week. I've tweaked, tuned, poked, prodded, and everything else I could do to my Audi and doubt I touch his laptimes.
I hope so, lol. Quik's got the same car and 25 PI on me, though.

I hope I am wrong. 😛 Of course, Arby always has something up his sleeve.

Speaking of which can everyone check their schedules and post in here if you can move the Laguna race to Thursday 3/12/09 instead of Tuesday since Arby is unavailable?

lap times anyone? I posted mine above, I have yet to get in to the 1:29's, but getting closer.

I still haven't run anything because I spent most of my free Forza time testing the Ferraris for last night. I probably won't run any laps until Friday or Saturday night.

Fortunately, I don't have to make any PI changes to my car. 😛

I'll run some later tonight...you can just subtract 3 seconds and see what OSJ will run 🙂

With 25 point PI swing I am not so sure about that.

I ran some last night when I got home. I couldn't hit 1:29 either.

I need to learn how to tune gears individually instead of just the final drive.

Me too, anyone willing to share their trade secrets? Or just a general idea of what I'm shooting for when adjusting?

From the First Article

Many tracks you will never hit the top speed of your car so don't let your top gear be 200mph on Maple Valley where you are likely to top out at 130.

130? weak sauce. Sounds like the writer has never played maple valley correctly coming down that back downhill straight-away. (In an A class at least).

Good tuning info though!

I have no idea how to fiddle with gearing, typically I'm a FD adjustor.

Same here.

Sometimes I will get an AH car that someone has tuned the gears on and it ALWAYS runs better than my poor attempts.

I have an Eagle Talon (A850 Class) from Russian Roulette night that has had all of its gears worked with and it screams. I ran very well that night. I would put this A850 Talon up against a lot of other cars and do just fine (wish I was using it for the Enduro series LOL).

I think gearing is certainly the spot to eek out that last second or so.

I posted the 'Kitchen Sink' tool in the other thread and the gearing calc does work but you have to put a ton of data like rpm @ max hp and tq, tire sizes etc along with what you want the max MPH to be and it spits it all out. Basically this is what you have to do in the CN version. Set shift rpm to rpm past hp peak where you are down to 90% of the max hp. Then you need to see where the rpm drops to after the shift. If you are past the torque peak the car will not be utilizing the torque to accelerate. if the rpm drops too far and the torque is low the car will not accelerate quickly after the shift either. You want it to drop to the point where you are in the fastest rising/fat part of the torque curve. Move onto the next gear and adjust ratios accordingly. You want the car in the identical spot in the torque curve after the shift to the exact spot on the hp curve before the shift. Having the car's fd in 6th at that same hp spot at the end of the tracks longest straight is where the FD should be set.
