forums loading real slow

Same issue. Really bad today. Though replying to msg's is nearly instant. Loading a page is impossibly slow.

how do i open the command prompt under admin role? i forget, i think that is the problem. the hosts file is not read only but will not let me save it

ok got the file to save, i had to take ownership of it. i am running 64 bit vista. but it still did not solve the problem. pages loading real slow

Remove the Read Only attrib. from the HOSTS before editing

On the line you add to the HOSTS file, make sure there are two spaces between the numeric address part and the text address part, and that there are no spaces within the text part. You may get different if you just cut & paste. The HOSTS file is a text database and the layout is important.

And be sure to set the HOSTS file back to Read Only as that helps protect the HOSTS file from malware meddling (but only a little bit).

This little patch has helped my forum access greatly as I'd been waiting minutes for screen updates here. Now it's right speedy... "Meesa happy fella!" says Jar-Jar.

Did the modification to the host file, but site is still very slow. Taking 4 minutes to load any page.

It was good last night, but incredibly slow right now like yesterday afternoon. I don't have the patience to post anymore. Waiting 5 minutes (literally) for the page to load so I could complain was worth it though. Now 5 minutes more for this to actually be posted...

Well, kinda' weird. Things were deathly slow before I modded the hosts file......BUT......I don't know if it *required* a reboot, or if it would've worked just as well to close all browser windows and re open, but I rebooted 'cuz it wasn't working at first.

Things seem better now.

Also.......(however)......at the same time IE in my XP machine was working like molasses, my iPod Touch was browsing quickly.

Yeah, I've had that line in my hosts file for quite some time now. Can't remember why I put it in there but something else was borked after the roll out of the latest fusetalk. While this may help some (as related to why I orignally had it there), I don't think it is the root of the current problem.

BTW, the forum is loading faster now; we'll see how long it lasts.

Yea it must be soemthing with the ADs as I just put on a adblock and the site is super fast now.

If any of you are using Kaspersky Anti-Virus, disable email scanning completely and see if it speeds you up.

Well, I got the forums to work by editing the hosts files; however, the Main site is unresponsive.

I had to delete the 127.0.0.1 localhost line first to get it to work. Is that really the correct procedure?

Try blocking dynamic1. I'm going to try that right now.
