Forums going slow for Firefox 0.9.3?

I saw the other recent topic about slowdowns, but this seems a bit different. For about the last week or so, Firefox has been really slow at rendering the forum pages. I get to http://forums.anandtech.com/ just fine, but when I try to enter one of the forums like General Hardware, my Firefox status just says "Waiting for forums.anandtech.com." I though maybe it was a proxy issue at work, but I have the same problem at home, too, where I have no proxy server. I just recently upgraded from 0.9.2 to 0.9.3, so that might have something to do with it. When I browse the pages in Internet Explorer, they render really fast. I've really grown used to Firefox's tabbing and mouse gestures (which I had some of in MyIE2, but it seems to be a memory hog and crash prone), so I'd like to be able to keep using it. Is it just me?

I meant to mention that sometimes I get into the forum like General Hardware, but the icons for the subjects never seem to get drawn and the page never completes. Not sure that's relevant.

The forums are feeling great to me this evening, but then again I just got DSL earlier in the afternoon, so since they're faster than they were on my dialup connection, I'm not complaining - even if they could/should be faster.

BTW, Mozilla 1.7 is the browser of choice.

I've noticed off and on, most recently on, that the forums seemed to be a bit slow. I'm guessing maybe server load, or AT is tweaking things on their end?

I finally got DSL here a couple of weeks ago, and a few days ago, the forums were flying, now they are kinda bogging down, probably nearly as slow as when I was on dialup. It's not so much that it takes a long time for the thread to finish loading, but it takes a long time for it to *start* loading. So I'm guessing, maybe a back-end database-load thing? Issues with the front-end cache proxy servers? I don't really know. (Maybe some sort of DNS or routing issue with Verizon DSL too?)

Edit: I should point out that my issues weren't so much with AT, I found out, rather, Firefox's "cache service" seems to disable itself due to a bug after a long period of use. Pages take much longer to load (timeout due to cache service lookup failure?), and the back button doesn't work right either, especially going back through pages obtained via the "POST" method. Sorry for the false alarm AT.

I guess I could see what you mean... there is sometimes a small pause before the page starts loading, if that's what you mean. I guess to me it's still a heck of a lot faster than my 56K, so that's why I didn't notice. (FYI, SBC DSL in Indiana)

I'm still having this issue with Firefox 0.9.3, but I think it has to do with loading the icons and other images. Often, the text of the page loads (almost immediately), but the images can take much longer -- up to several minutes if they ever load at all. It does seem to come and go. Sometimes, things work just fine. Other time, like right now, things load slug-slow.

I've started to just use Internet Explorer 6.0 to view the forums, but that's not the best solution as all my bookmarks and other pages are viewed in Firefox. That and I've become so used to using mouse gestures in Firefox, I get ticked off everytime I try one in IE and nothing happens.

That and all the stupid windows IE opens from trying to follow links. Is IE ever going to support tabs? And did I mention that the lack of "mouse gestures" really irks me.

We're very busy with other projects right now including the .net upgrade, we arent going to look at any forum issues until that upgrade has occurred, as it makes no sense... The issues with firefox, have to be something wacky with route or the browser as the image tags are pure html img tags.

A bit off-topic, sorry, but I use TBird v7.1 as my email client and the notices I receive from the forum (informing me that a post has received a response) are arriving as attachments "Part 1.2" and also "Part 1.3"
where the first is .htm and second is text.

This despite my TBird settings that attachments be displayed in-line.

It is clumsy, not a critical issue, but if others have it I'd like to know if it is best addressed thru my FF/TB or Anandtech profile (which I've tried but see no relevant values to tweak)...

I have finally given up on FireFox.
Its still way too sensitive to various scripting techniques.

I have been trying various browsers lately, and very reluctantly, I am using Greenbrowser all the time now.
(Latest version out yesterday - majorgeks.com)

Its very non intuitive and has tons of settings, but little by little I am forcing myself to learn its tricks.

There is nothing faster, and works all the time.

It is based on the IE kernal, so I have to watch more closely for virus and stuff, but at least I can surf everywhere without hassle.

You've "given up" on FF?
That's an example of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face, IMO.
But, as you point out, there's an undeniable advantage
to be found in GB's usage of the MS kernel: it makes security hacking so much easier
on those hardworking Czech kids. They really don't have the time to put out versions of malware to accomodate
Linux kernels. Hell, even the guys at SCO show their soft side by refusing Gecko kernels.
