Forum spambots getting way smart these days

Their coding has really got some way past the vbulletin capitcha-whatever images, and ironically the same images are getting harder for me to fill it in correctly on the first try.

It's easier for the spambots to post here, but it's also FAR easier for everyone to report such posts & for us moderators to delete those posts. It used to be that deleting 20 posts would take me 20 minutes. Now, it's 2 minutes. (Bbut 9 times as often - that puts us just a little bit ahead.)

They're voluntarily doing something which they must know is a very direct drain on resources, and destructive to productivity.

By that logic we'd have to axe rubberneckers at accidents too, and if we did that we'd be nuking whole cities on a daily basis.

Why don't hackers attack the spammers? It's not like the average hacker likes spam more than most others. The average spammer is out there to make money, the average hack is out there to fuel their ego. It's not like spammer are all using government level security.

captchas aren't hard to defeat. The file downloaders can make it past the megaupload captchas and others so you just queue up a list of files and go.

but some vB captchas are really bad. ReCaptcha is easy to get past. I've only failed once in my life and that just because my hand slipped. There's quite a bit of leniency. As for some other captchas... those are evil.
