My other site, (note i have been banned from posting on the forums for over a year because i picked fun at one of the admins, and i quit his tribes team, and i was one of the better players ;) ), tribalwar.com/forums is riddled with want-to-be adults looking for attention at any possible length. Part of this is in the flaming that they do of eachother. Note that i had been playing Tribes (a first person shooter) since its release, i had played for top teams, and i had been one of the people that everyone knew. I personally look back on it and i wonder why i wasted so much time on a stupid game. However, i did meet alot of nice people, some of whom i have met and i have enjoyed their company.

Today i goto http://www.tribalwar.com/forums , browse the main forum for the first time since february, and see something that makes me wish i could post, and wish that these guys had something better to do with their time.

This weekend is UVA5, which i did purchase a ticket for, however i am not attending. http://www.uvalan.com

I read that a 25 year old tribes addict, well known to the community, and respected for that matter, assaulted a 15 year old child because of "flaming" that went on in an ONLINE FORUM. Please help me understand what is wrong with the "adult" population of america. I am 20 years old in 1 month and 6 days, and i pray that in 5 years i do not have the angst to attack someone half my size, and nearly half my age because he acted like a punk in an online forum.

Adults have a certain amount of dignity that they carry with themselves, however i now feel as though this must be earned, because i severely doubt the online "communities" of the world, and whether there are "normal" people browsing, or if they are strictly a group of individuals who lack the social skills to retain a life outside of the realm of cyberspace.

And note, that in the event that i EVER attack someone at a LAN party because he called me a douche on a internet forum, please, i give you distinct permission to kill me.

I read an article back in 2001, about how the popularity of Starcraft in S. Korea was starting gang fights. Imagine a couple of gang member, flashing gang signs, with weapons drawn and threatening each other over a computer game for nerds!!

This is simple to explain, some people are insane. Stay away from them as much as possible.

Don't you wonder how all those gamers have all that time on their hands?? Some of them aren't too adept at "the social skills". I used to be a big gamer and now I barely have 30 minutes a week for CS.

Yep, I used to game all the time too. Just got sick of shooting things up all day.

Oh, and in Korea they take gaming seriously. I remember reading an article where someone sued because of server downtime in an Everquest type game. He won, and got a ton of virtual money.

Korea is known for breakdancing, computer games and plastic surgery.

Sorry if I'm stereotyping. A lot of my friends are Korean too and would agree with me.

There's an understatement if I've ever seen one.;) I don't know if this is because Tribes is rated T, so it has a younger community or what, but the Tribalwar community seems to suffer from a very real problem of "juvenile delinquency"; it's a community that will Goatse someone in real life(leading to the site owner getting a death threat:Q), and gloats about getting ready to fight each other. It's like someone took the lowest lowlifes out of middle/high school, and put them on a forum without supervision, with the "adults" acting no better. This isn't to say everyone is horrible, but the few tend to ruin it for the many(or is it the many ruin it for the few?). Tribalwar is the embodyment of the "dark side" of the internet(not by choice mind you, but by luck); sadly I don't think this kind of stuff will ever stop now that it's started.

Ugh, while i do belive that the internet and online personalities will end up playing a large role in the future of the development of technology, i also believe that people need to show far more restraint than they do currently.

One time I got flamed on a this very popular internet forum, where everyone thinks that they are really smart. I posted something about a movie, criticizing it. Turns out that the movie was the admins favourite, and that admin was literally everyones god on that forum. I got flamed really really bad. :(

That forum facilitates the distribution of copyrighted content and what not, I am still thinking about reporting them to someone.

I remember they had Starcraft toys and lunchgear, even Starcraft shoes in Korea. I mean dang! I love that game too but obsessing over it? Scary stuff
