Would not want to live next to him. ;)

I wouldn't debate that we are all (mostly) Americans, We ALL are Americans no matter what. I would debate what is right and wrong or "best" for our country tho.

To build on that:

I think that ignorance and backwardness are nurtured and sustained by darkness and isolation. This forum is a place where people can meet and share, or try to share, if you call shoving sometimes your version of truth down the other Butt-Head's throat a form of sharing. In the process I think we can sometimes catch a glimpse of the fact that that other fool is human, and maybe even human just like me. And maybe too some of the raw and necked ignorance that we were born into, at least in my opinion, is sanded down a bit and softened just because we have become aware that there are many ways that people see things. I can think of nothing that humanity needs more than the tolerance that a shared experience can bring. Anyway, I'm not talented enough to say well what I hope you can see I'm really trying to say here. But I wanted to thank Anand Lal Shimpi for all the effort he has put in to create this place. It is a place that makes the world better in my opinion.

I like conjur cause he has a real knack for supporting his arguements with facts something I try to do more of because of his example, because I tend to stand on moral ground, personal faith, beliefs and what i know in my heart when it comes to issues and debates.

Cadkindaguy, at times he scares me. But there are moments when the conservative side of me agrees with him and i am rendered helpless to defend myself. ;)

Moonbeam, well, i guess 3 words, official anandtech therapist. He helps us all look at ourselves and see that we are simply human beings and to not take things to seriously.

If only more had the opportunity and place to do such a thing.

This forum is an exact mirror of the current poltical climate. An extremely negative and partisan campaign by both candidates and the people who support them. AT had its share of flamewars before P&N, but the OT nature of it all kept people fairly sane and nice. This forum has "I'm here to argue, and I brought my talking points" written all over it.

i respect a lot of people for their ability to show their opinion in a clear and (usually) logical way. i tend to try and ignore the too personal stuff on either side because it makes it look sort of silly.
i think the "regulars" are all people ive engaged in conversation with and enjoyed: (in no particular order) gravity, conjur, cad, cyclo, train, todd, nick, moonbeam, klixx and the list goes on but those are the names i can remember off hand so i feel like those are the ones im most likely to quote and respond to.
sometimes i do get downright enraged and i try to walk away. or i go and read the picture thread again and feel happy.

Got to admit some of the posters here would not be welcome @ my home, I chose to interact with folks that hold simialr views as mine, and since I interact with huge numbers of folks during the course of my job, so I tend to have a fairly quiet home life.

I guess the posters that infuriate me the most are those most deeply seated in their opinions, I really try to listen to all sides of an argument, I lean conservative/centrist but am really totalitarian in many issues, but I love Nat Public Radio because of their relatively non-biased news, stories.

I also find myself more sensitive to comments that suggest class bias by posters, which I find a very curious attitude to spew from the mouths of social progressives.

I pretty much like everyone, with maybe one or two or three exceptions. And I like them, in the way that you like to take a big crap - feels good to let it go :D

I only mind when someone asserts that questioning Bush's policies is being unamerican. Or being against the Iraqi war is the same as "not supporting our troops".

Just as I mind when not being against the war means that you enjoy seeing our soldiers killed and are contributing to their continued suffering. It runs both ways here. You best bet is to try and ignore those extremes and stick to the high road, which is not always easy, but works out for the best.

I never suggested "being against the war means that you enjoy seeing our soldiers killed". Nice try though.

I enjoy getting into arguements if they are kept on a civil level, so thats why I clash with people so frequently.

A swift kick to the right e-nut or something like that.... but actually I don't talk about stuff like this....

Everyone at work sure are fired up about the election. For a conservate state like Virginia, I'm stuck in the room working with 2 extreme liberals, 1 libertarian, 1 extreme religious nut, and a Chinese guy.

I would say this forum is largely in favor of Kerry or more appropriatly, anti-Bush.
