Fortron 550w FSP550-60PLN or OCZ Powerstream 520w

Spent the past 2 hours trying to pick a PSU, settled on those 2.

I have a 20pin k8n-e deluxe board, so I'll have to use an adapter. I've been having some computer issues lately, so I'm grabbing a PSU to see if that solves the problem. If not, I guess it's time for an upgrade.

Anyway, any recommendations between the two? The OCZ is $120, the Fortron is $80 but price isn't an issue if one is better than the other.

Thanks much

I emailed FSP USA and asked about this PSU. They claim the noise is 30-48 db depending on load. Has anyone notice if this PSU is very loud? There have been no online reviews of this PSU but the couple of posting I have found did not complain of any significant noise.

It also has no PCIe connector but they gave a link where one can be purchased.

I'm building in a full tower case, can anyone comment on how long the leads are?

A fully loaded non-SLI AMD system will pull about 250 to 300 watts. If you have a quality 350 to 400 watts PSU, then you be fine.

Connect only the hard drive to the motherboard if you suspect a PSU issue. A borderline PSU will work okay when you remove the loads from the PCI cards, extra HDD, optical drives, floppy drive, and USB devices.

I have the Blue Storm 500w. EXCELLENT PSU, very quiet, the retail AMD CPU cooler is louder. Voltages reported in the BIOS are all on target even over the rated voltages.

PLus it looks so damn cool, LED power switch, blue UV sleeves, you can't go wrong with the Fortron.

I have this PSU, The leads on the FSP are LONG. It is a sever PSU with all that that implies. I haven't noticed it being loud. It has a variable fan, so noise is only an issue if your case is hot. It also has adjustable voltage outputs.

All this and it saves you $$$. No wonder it's the darling of the Ball.

PS:

the FSP is 79 dollars through Directron.com

Edited to reflect VOLTAGE outputs, not fan output..
