So do you have to have HL2 full game to download and play this or is it a free demo?

I imagine like most HL2 based mods as long as you can get the Source SDK base then you'll be able to play the mod. The Source SDK Base comes with any HL2 based game be it HL2, DOD:Source, CS:Source, etc.

It's definitely not a demo, but it is a mod. You'll need SOME sort of source engine game installed to get this running I believe.

Neat. This'll give me something to waste some time with. What's nice, is already knowing most of the maps.

I used to be addicted to TFC.. but FF blows. The balance is terrible. HWguy is too weak and yet moves too fast and his chaingun overheats too quickly, aiming as sniper is more difficult, engineer has become worthless, pryo and solider are too strong, and spies shouldn't be able to kill you with one knife attack to the front when you are moving around.

yea the game definitely needs some work. The balancing issues are terrible... there's also a plethora of lag issues. Worst of all, some guns (such as the nailgun) don't even shoot at the crosshair... that's just inexcusable.

You can tell they rushed this thing out. There are too many little problems with the game and it adds up to a long list of annoyances. Don't uninstall TFC just yet!

TF2 beta comes out Monday for all the people who preordered the orange box. I'll be one of them :)

If you've been watching the FF/TF2 debates from a certain perch (a forum), you'd know this really wasn't a surprise. Some of their fans really thought valve saw FF as a threat.. quite laughable.

Personally, my performance issues are too great for me to enjoy the game.

I agree with gripes above, the game just isn't ready for prime time, lots of bugs, and the mod is aimed squarely at the existing (and very small) league community. The first update will end up being a new game.

Not trying to call you out... just going to use your post as a reference.
I spent entirely too many hours playing FF over the weekend... and had a blast. Sure it has some issues but nothing show stopping, especially for a 1st release.

HWGuy is not too weak - for the gun just tap your mouse rapidly instead of holding it down and he'll never overheat. But yes IMO he does move too fast... especially when firing.

Didn't have any problems with sniper.

Engineer was far from worthless... especially if you had more than 1 w/multiple sentries.

From what I saw spies can't kill you with 1 knife attack unless they hit you square in the back. Any other attempts by me resulted in 3-4 hits to kill, if I was able to swing that many times before I died myself.

And 2 comments to end this post with.
1 - As an engineer in FF... #$#(*$#)( you spies and your sabatoging. :p
2 - Bring on TF2 :D

But they're VERY easy to take out if you know how do to it. I was getting pissed as engy seeing how easy my babies were dying.
Medics & scouts shooting nails... spies sabatoging... HWguys pounding them with their cluster nades. Gets me frustrated just thinking about it. :p

The part I hate the most is the fast moving + hopping + firing HW guy. How was that a good idea for the game?!

I agree that there are balancing issues and a bunch of bugs. Definitely released prematurely in an attempt to get a user base before TF2. Although, the game does have potential.

Also, the people I talked to in game seemed to be predominantly against TF2. Based on the graphics alone...

It's more than that. IMHO they're against it because TF2 is harder for them to learn. You'd be surprised how many people seemingly loaded up TFC and bhopped into another dimension.

I tried playing this game last night.. its just so.. ugh.. ugly and cheap feeling.

Players move at the speed of light, hard to even get a sniper shot off against anyone. The textures are crap and the colors are all hokey.

I gave it 10 mins and then had to turn it off. It felt like I was playing a game made for 8 year olds

Yeah, I thought sniper was actually easier to handle now, had a massive killing spree last time I played. You don't have to charge to full bar, you can kill people easily with headshots at half charge when they stop at doors etc.

I like TF2 much better though, fantastic art style and none of that MIRV spamming or conc whoring bullcrap from TFC....yeah yeah conc jumping takes skill, but when I can just fly into enemy base alone, burst through 6 people and take the flag back home on my own really takes the "team" out of Team Fortress.
