What a great result! Congrats, everyone.
@Orange Kid your C2D fare much better than mine, any custom setup required to run yafu efficiently on C2D system? My laptop is still digesting its second major yafu task (19 hrs as I'm writing this).

This is probably not the right place for this, but Windows Update has killed my 2P Ivy box... again! Short of disabling Windows Update, which I am leery of doing due to security concerns, I am out of ideas for keeping this box alive under Windows. I've been forced to reload the OS several times during a half year of ownership! Nothing else fixes it, it won't auto-repair, roll back changes, safe mode reveals nothing, etc.

So, I've downloaded the latest Ubuntu distro, and am ready to make this my first Linux DC rig. Any suggestions on a different/better distro for this purpose? And are there any recommended cross-platform remote desktop apps?

I stay with windows and disable the update. If all the box does is DC, no web browsing, etc... I think you are safe. I have 12 boxes, all windows, all DC, and never had an issue. The ubuntu boxes were such a pain to keep running on new stuff. and new video cards, etc.

I suppose I could try to lock it down well enough, my concern is more that it could be co-opted to access other machines on the subnet than anything that would be on the machine itself. Perhaps putting it on its very own NAT subnet would help. I'm not terribly well-versed in security issues.

I don't know about many distros. You should be able to use Tight VNC for remote desktop. But I think you need to configure something first to allow that.

Edit: Here.

I have used some sort of VNC variant in the past (Linux, Windows, OS X), probably TightVNC, but that's very long ago. Currently I control my Linux "appliances" merely via command line access, and remote access with boincmgr/ boinccmd/ boinctasks. I also used fahcontrol's remote access feature at the time when I ran F@H CPU slots on them. I did not venture into Linux GPU computing yet.

OcUK took a liking to YAFU and are now at 80 % of our points and 180 % of EVGA's.

A few interesting thoughts about Formula Boinc in general, and next year in particular, from members of OcUK and [H]:

Climate Prediction hasn't issued any credits for over a month now, so I am ramping down my contribution to them until such time as their issue is resolved. I kept wondering why I wasn't getting any credit, apparently nobody is.

There are plenty of other projects to do!

I think the people over at Climate Prediction feel as if theirs is the only worthwhile project, and everyone should be willing to contribute whether credits are issued or not. I suppose they will be finding out who this is true for, and who it is not.

Re: climate prediction
The last 11 WUs I got on Sept. 12 were from 15.7 to 17.6 hours. I only have the two "Weather At Home 2" selected in preferences.

Well, I am helping out a bit anyway. I got a message from the Leiden server that I though was funny:

9/27/2017 4:53:47 PM | Leiden Classical | (there was work but it was committed to other platforms)

It's not so funny once you've seen it a few times. It means the server has work, but won't give it to you because of your operating system. 🙄

A quick look at the standings before the flag is dropped.
