The first session of the Formula One 2006 season starts with tomorrow's practice session in Bahrain!

We'll finally get to see how the different teams compare....my money is on Renault and Honda setting the pace for the entire weekend.

Anyway, check out my F1 2006 Season Preview at :
SpeedArena's 2006 F1 season preview.

I'm uber-excited about season opener in Bahrain!!!!!!!!!!

really? that's pretty cool! How was it?

I went to the Montreal GP last summer, that was pretty fun. Awesome parties during that weekend. :)

The race was actually pretty boring. Schumi owned it.

The sound of the cars was the best part!!

Hot Gulf Air chicks as well.

I just can't see JB and/or RB being substitutes for what Senna and Prost did. lol.

No one expects that - but a few wins this year are definitely possible. I agree that Renault look tops, but since Honda and Ferrari tested at Bahrain a couple weeks ago, they will likely be the most prepared.

Predicts 1 Renault, Honda, and Ferrari on the podium, with Alonso the favorite for the win, and Michael the outside shot.

I'm confused why everyone is predicting that Schumacher won't win. Didn't Michelin drop out of F1 leaving Bridgestone the only tire company? I've always understood that the big reason that Schumacher had so much trouble last season is due to the fact that the Bridgestone rubber wasn't quite as effective as Michelin's. That would tend to indicate that he'll put in another good showing this year. This is assuming that he doesn't have some history in Bahrain.

Michelin is still competing this season, as it will be their last. They will bow out at the end of this season, leaving Bridgestone to be the only supplier in 2007 and beyond (single tire supplier becomes mandatory in 2008).

In any case, it seems that Michelin have the upper hand during winter testing, but we will see as the season unfolds. I don't expect Schumi to get any wins right now, but as the car gets its regular updates I'd expect them to start winning regulalry.

And don't forget, Schumi alone is good for a few-tenths. :p

I think he meant the 80s engine wins that Honda had.

Michelin is still in F1... this is their last year.

Ferrari had bigger problem than tires last year. The car just wasn't as fast as the McLaren or Renault. Seems to be the same problem this year, only not as bad.

Apparently, Ralf has written off Ferrari for the year. He's supposedly seen their data since Toyota and Ferrari are on Bridgestones, and he says Ferrari is way behind McLaren and Renault.

Oops, I guess I was off by a year.

I haven't read your preview yet because I still haven't watched the last race of last season. It's still sitting on my TiVo.

i really wouldn't trust Ralf as much. He spouts a lot of crap. He should worry about staying ahead of Trulli.

Toyota worries me, they hyped a lot, but they haven't been that fast in winter testing. I sure hope they have something up their sleeve.

You don't have to watch the last race to read the preview! It won't spoil it for you if that is what you mean.

1st practice session just finished

Here's live timing for those that care.

SpeedTV is airing a practice session in 2 hours. I don't know if it's the 1st or 2nd but it says live so I'm guessing it's the latter.

i cant ****** wait for this! so uber excited. gonna be a good year for F1

i would hope Mclaren can continue their blistering pace this weekend, but they have been having numerous problems with an unreliable and somewhat underpowered engine. that was 4 weeks ago, i hope they got it sorted!

So much for the cars being slow... and it's only been the first practice session. lol.

2005 - Raikkonen (FIN) McLaren 1:33.388

2006 - K.Räikkönen McLaren/Mercedes 1'33.836

Granted they're allowed to change tires now but those V8s aren't as slow as people thought they were going to be.
