Yoyo was on the FB forum after Primegrid was chosen last sprint unhappy that his projects aren't being chosen. That was my assumption on why Sebastien chose it, but the timing certainly isn't ideal with Yoyo on vacation

I would be interested, that yoyo@home and yafu would be choosen, but instead some projects, which are already big enough and runs numerous other races are selected.

I missed that comment. But I guess if the project admin asked to be chosen, he/she can't really complain if the project gets overwhelmed by the sudden increase in traffic during the sprint.

Formula BOINC sprints are probably past their peak of user participation. But I wouldn't be surprised if Yoyo considers yoyo@home even suitable for events as big as current Pentathlons.

Probably true. It does seem to be handling the load so far. TSBT is going nuts, but there hasn't been a huge amount of participation from the rest of the teams...

If anyone participating has a relatively new AMD GPU and wants a boost in production, there is a custom GPU app for the MQueens sub project. Sadly, it doesn't work on Nvidia cards. 🙁

16 December 2020 GPU version for M Queens
We have now a first GPU version for the M Queens project for Windows. It requires an OpenCL 2.0 GPU. The version can be downloaded from github.com. The zip contains an installation instruction, the app and the app_info.xml.

Had the same issue lane42, it's windows only problem.
From my teammate bill1024:

"You have to replace a file in c:\program files\BOINC with this file.

It will replace the one that is already there, then confirm you want to replace it.

Then you can add projects to BOINC again
This is a temp work around for now until they fix it

There were at least 5 FB sprints this year on medical projects(2 on Rosetta, 1 on WCG, 1 on SiDock, 1 on TN-Grid) so it stands to reason next year would be similar.


I'm not trying to sway anybody either way, but just wanted to make it clear that if we are going to participate in FB next year we would have to have a team founder register our team for it, it will not happen automatically.

There were at least 5 FB sprints this year on medical projects(2 on Rosetta, 1 on WCG, 1 on SiDock, 1 on TN-Grid) so it stands to reason next year would be similar.

And two of these represent one of the aspects at which Formula Boinc organization is lacking.

• The TN-Grid server is emitting work at a quite well know low rate. This low rate of work generation is insufficient to support a contest. It's been known for years. Any TN-Grid contest is a contest about who can spam the server with work requests at the highest frequency.
• Since OPNG (the GPU application version of Open Pandemics) was introduced at WCG, a WCG contest without subproject selection will automatically be an OPNG contest. However, Similar to TN-Grid but for a different reason, WCG emits OPNG work at a very low rate. The outcome is the same; such a WCG contest is a contest in work request spamming.

So, why organize contests at TN-Grid again and again? And keep organizing WCG contests after the OPNG introduction?

BTW, there were actually 2 on WCG (also 2 at Rosetta, at MilkyWay, at PrimeGrid, and at SRBase). And one sprint was canceled. Quite repetitive. But at least this works better for anybody who is not favoring so-called speculative bunkering.

This could be a positive development: There will be a far lower number of teams, members of all of these teams will be more or less aware what's going on, and "team hoppers" will have fewer targets to hop on and will be more visible at it (unless resorting to the dump'n'run tactic).

Personally, I am not interested in FB Sprints anymore. I also never was interested in FB Marathons, with the exception of the 2020 season.
