ROFL!! Thanks for the mature response.

Yes, I rate a race in how hard guys fight for position, that's why it's called RACING. If they just line up and are content to stay that way without even attempting to pass the car in front of them it's a parade. You can tie a giant helium-filled Snoopy to each car and nothing would change.

You think they are deliberately staying in their positions?

You stated you have followed Formula 1 for a long time. You honestly believe that statement you just made?

They pass and try to pass when feasible. There are a lot of limitations that also play into deciding not to make a pass attempt during particular laps, because there are tire conservation issues to deal with. That has always existed, has it not? The individual teams just seem to have cars that are incredibly close to each other, or the driver/car combos ultimately result in similar performance - so one driving closing a gap and passing another driver becomes far less frequent.

I'm not an apologist for the current state of regulations, but I'd hardly describe it as you do. FIA and the Formula 1 management definitely need to work on the regulations in a way that produces a more lively spectacle with more battles for position.

You know what would be really fuel efficient? If everybody stopped watching F1 and they stopped going in circles at 190mph.

F1 drivers are notoriously rich and prissy AFAIK. Its more about status for them than winning. So not very aggressive on the passing usually.

Hmmm how about drivers that actually need the money?

uh... lol
Formula 1 isn't a soap opera or "professional wrestling"... it's a competition of skill and technology.

I'm pretty sure most of the first half of the pack desperately wanted to beat Vettel almost every single race for the four years he controlled the top of the podium. And this year, you could see and hear how pissed off Vettel was during every race when the Red Bull cars were basically crap compared to Mercedes. He was prissy, perhaps, because he was so used to having one of the best cars... but he still wants that win. They all do.

Unless there's some super ultra secret behind the scenes puppet masters that I am totally underestimating, these drivers are no less interested in the wins as any other racing league, be it Nascar, Indycar, United Sportscar, V8 Supercars, etc.

So, you want racing to be a charity sport for the needy? 😕

BTW-There are drivers in F1 who PAY to drive in the sport. F1 drivers are extremely competitive. You have to be in top physical shape just to drive one of those cars at the limit and their schedules are ridiculously packed between racing, testing, sponsor commitments and all the traveling. I'm surprised they have ANY down time at all. Granted, they live a pretty lavish lifestyle.

From your first post in this thread you just shit all over F1 because you don't like it and you're calling me immature? 🙄

Pot meet kettle.

seriously, if you guys start a F1 thread in the garage i swear i'm coming to threadcrap it with animation-related posts. insert_emote

Well, there's a reason the phrase "Talladega Express" came to be used by commentators. There are a lot of people who don't find the "strategic drafting" in Nascar all that exciting.

i didn't realise F1 was such a source of heated arguments, as i hardly ever watch it. i'm a motorcycle man myself. i find the full-body driving to be a more entertaining sport than the hands-only driving of cars.

i'm not so sure about "hands only". f1 drivers endure up to 5 G multiple times per lap, times 45-70 laps. the left foot produces massive force for the non-power brakes while the right is extra precise to avoid wheelspin at almost any speed. despite the open cockpit, it's like a sauna in there.

F1 cars only have two pedals...brake on the left and throttle on the right.

As for the "hands only" driving...just look at the steering wheel and tell me thats not complex and details for being "hands only"
