Just the top 3 US airports handle about 30 times the entire population of Israel in a given year.

El Al style security is not practical for the US.

Until the next plane is bombed and then the US pays magnitudes more as airlines lose money or go under as passengers decide not to fly and the government spends tons more on "beefing up security".

At the very least, everyone agrees that the TSA checks currently being conducted at airports is a joke.

The TSA is definitely a joke. I think our time/money would be better spent on cleaning that up that mess first.

Honestly, you guys are fucking cowards.

Our country is fucking broke as hell. We are cutting emergency rooms, teachers, street maintenance, and just about every other fricking thing that matters in the daily lives of our people.

Terrorism kills how many Americans every year?

Yes, the American occupation of Iraq before 9/11 was certainly a contributing factor in terrorism. Idiot.

It's not that we're cowards, it's that you're stupid. Each aircraft terrorism event costs the society billions. With the financial damage caused by 9/11 events, you could run the TSA for years and years.

Terrorism kills how many Americans every year?

Is the concept of prevention really that alien to you?

It's disgusting that we don't have a common sense person like this in charge of our airline security. Instead we have the GOP fretting that TSA may become unionized and blocking appointments of key head personnel to prevent this affront to their sensibilities. And the Administration's reaction is to throw money at a patch on patch technological approach-the full body scanners.

We need to take the politics out of this process and put a good, no-nonsense police chief in charge of it. No security system is perfect, but ours is pathetically bad for all the money thrown at it and all the inconvenience it causes.

And Zebo, we don't pay screeners anywhere near 100K-they get cashiers pay and we hire them out of the same labor pool.

Your point..other having nothing to do with this topic??
This has nothing to do with being cowardly...this has a lot to do with a few hundred people being killed by a terrorist...

That argument and all the arguments concerning our presence in the middle east and our policies being the cause of anything are total nonesense.

Also total nonesense is the argument that poverty is the cause of terrorism...etc...

I never said we did. I said we'd need to pay 100k a year to attract the quality of individuals required to screen like Israeli and fire all the reject McDonalds workers they now have.

Actually Israeli scanners are mostly students doing it as a side job, and certainly make nowhere near 100k. Obviously they are carefully selected and thoroughly trained, but they are not what I'd call "professionals".

Which ones? There are about 6 layers. Entrance screeners , line screener, baggage screeners, Interrogation room screeners, video room screeners, metal detector and x ray screeners. All have various levels or professionalism. And all are trained to spot things out of place, personality issues etc which TSA is not. Instead they hammer everyone looking for items not looking for terrorists, huge difference.

Oh and we basically agree that's why I said only 100K instead of 250K. You don't need a Mossad undercover checking baggage but you do need quality which is more difficult here.

wrong. american policy is the root cause of attacks against america.

"terrorists" didn't wake up one morning and magically declare, "let's start a war against america for no apparent reason because we don't like freedom".

what are you smoking, son?

son, you're still wrong. "they" didn't wake up one day and magically declare war against america. logic has obviously failed you. why haven't "they" struck democracies that have stayed out of "their" lands?

one more thing, son, adding exclamation marks is a good way to strengthen any internet post, especially if you're dead wrong. are you taking notes?

What about terrorism attacks in other areas of the world by the same type of fanatics?
Africa/Asia/Russia.
Most anywhere where the terrorists can recruit and blend in an operative, they will have done so.

It is the American/Western values that they despise - the US is just the biggest target and the most tolerating which allowed easier access

so who started invading / meddling with who first?

was it arabs / muslims / islam who hit america first in history? or did america meddle in middle eastern affairs, overthrow their governments, install brutal dictatorships that forever planted seeds of hatred and revenge. yeah, i thought so.

as you can see, common courtesy, "they" hate those so called "values" of ours. like i said, they didn't wake up one day in the 1800s and hate the nation of america, but you can keep deluding yourself.........

Why does he need to reply to your diatribe?
It`s obvious you have no clue what you are talking about.

Then you mis-represent what Common Courtesy is saying......

What part of --- It is the American/Western values that they despise - the US is just the biggest target and the most tolerating which allowed easier access

Common Courtesy did NOT agree with your false and mis-leading diatribe!!

You've hit the nail on the head. We need a can-do head of airport security who can be shielded from the political flak while he or she rips out all the bureaucratese in the TSA and implements procedures and processes that are sure to draw howls from the PC crowd. It would be like how New York City was turned around in the '80s despite all the political road-blocks.

Instead of relying too much on technology, we should do like El Al does, with technology being an accessory tool, not with it as the main tool. Otherwise, what will happen when someone finds a way to defeat the body scanner by carrying the explosives inside his body with just a string linked to a friction igniter (like those Christmas crackers/pétards) coming out?
