I went and bought a new hard drive and installed it just as the directions stated about 7 months ago. I got an error message tonight saying that I had run out of space and I thought to myself, how could I have used 40 gigs already. I got to looking at my free and used space and it says that my hard drive is only 2 gig.

After much thought, I realize that I used my original recovery disk that came with my pc to format my hard drive. It only recognized 2 gig because that is what came with the pc. Is there any way to get back that other 38 gigs without losing my stuff?

You might try PartitionMagic or something like that. Or throw an old 3 gig HD in there and ghost your primary to it, partition/format the primary properly, and ghost the data back.

Norton Ghost or Arconis TrueImage can make an image of your hard disk for you and save it to a second hard disk. Then partition and format the drive properly, and transfer it back.
