Formatting question.

This is the order my boss told me to setup the computers, build it, make three partions: 10gigs; 18gigs; 610megs (he sells the systems with 30gig hd), format all three, copy win98 files to E: install windows bla bla bla.

Yesterday when he wasn`t there, I just formated C: and E: install windows, and then once in windows I formated D: which took a fraction of the time then it would to format in dos.

What I'm wondering is if there is any stabality difference or anything of the sort that might my the systems a little less stable doing it this way? I don't see the difference in formating in dos or windows, just that windows goes faster because all the drivers are installed. But I just want a second opion.
 
No difference at all. I've done it both ways. I have also formatted everything into one large drive (C:\) and then used Partition Magic to create the other partitions. Also works just as well. No effect on stability. That comes from the OS and the software installed, and seems to be inversely related to the number of TSRs and gee whiz background things you run. The more you have, the less likely you'll have stability.

I am supposed to be in Montreal right now . . . have tried to get there since Thursday . . . and it just won't happen. I was to have sailed from there on the MS Amsterdam tomorrow . . . but have had to cancel the entire trip because Northwest just can't fly their planes at a loss.

So, we cancelled the whole thing. Our contribution to the war effort. 🙂
