Formatting in NTFS

How do you format a partition in NTFS?

Well...

1) You can use PartitionMagic.

2) You can format it from Win2K - by right-clicking on the part. and choosing &quot;Format...&quot; - easy way to convert NTFS<->FAT16/32!

3) I am sure that you can find a format utility on the Emergency Repair Diskketes set witch you can create in Win2K.

You don't format in NTFS. You actually make the partition NTFS, not formatting it. Whats your situation? New HDD? Wanna start over? Need info!

The situation is:

Our hardware vender came by because there is a mismatch in our order and the invoice etc. We didnt have one of the hard drives that was signed for but not in the box. The guy came over and pulled out all of the hard drives when the machine was still on( to check the serial numbers). Needles to say he got a few words. Anyway, when we restored the everything we were left with alot of weird files that can not be deleted and that are causing a few problems. So, I just need to format d drive so that I can restore a clean backup. Cant format by right clicking the drive and trying to format there. It says something is using it.

That means a file that NT is using (or needs) currenly resides on that partition. It could be a system file (unlikely) or a program file, from a program that is installed on that partition.

I had this problem once with Corel Suite 8. I couldn't remove a partition for the same reason. Fortunately the file was in a FAT partition so I just booted off of a floppy and deleted it.

There's a company that sells a program that will make NTFS bootable diskettes, I don't remember who and I don't remember how much. You may just want to whack the whole thing and start over from scratch.
