right now im building a new system...i have a 40gig hd
dont i need to format the drive before i can install n e thing on it?
doesnt it need to be set to primary master?

win XP ? in the bios set the first boot device as CD-ROM. the install will let you create and format the 1st (if more than one) partion before it installs. then you can do like c8 said to format the rest of the disk if you have any space left over.
good luck

Well, which one you going to use?

Just search "How to install windows" in Google and you'll come up with a bunch of instructions.
