OK.... I have an extra hdd that I'd like to just store files, music, data on- but it is not currently empty/formatted. It has the complete OS and data from my last ASUS build.

How can I format it so that I can have a clean disc to back up data on? I don't imagine XP will let me format it if I just plug it in to my existing rig with the RAID 5 still plugged in. I am guessing I have to unplug the RAID array and boot up with the extra hdd and use my XP disc to format it? Then plug my RAID array back in and all should be well.... yes??

TIA

As long as the RAID array is your first boot device, sure, you can plug it in.

Then you just go to My Computer, right-click that drive, and format. If it gives you grief, you can right-click My Computer, select Manage, go down to Disk Management and work on it from there. :)
