So all my apps seem to run really slow after i did a format/reinstall from the os x cd then migrated my files from a time machine backup. is it just me or is this a known problem?

some apps bounce 2-3-4 times on the first run after turning the mac on - they used to not do that (even i chat or mail)

any thoughts?

Try repairing permissions in Disk Utility. I've heard it can help with some of the issues following a Time Machine restore.

Time Machine is not necessarily used for what you were trying. Sure, it can be done, but ideally, it is used for "Oh crap" moments, I personally prefer Carbon Copy Cloner for full backups for my system in restore situations.

Another vote for Carbon Copy Cloner. It's worked quite well for me in the past. It's also free :)
