I have a 5 pc network all with windows98 SE. I had to format one of them and now it can't find the network. All the other machines still show it as being there but can't access it. I gave the pc a new name and the old name still shows on all the other machines. Using netbeui and tcp/ip. Linksys LNE100tx Fast Ethernet Nics and a 10/100 5 port Linksys hub. ANY IDEAS??

No i am using a passive hub. I have now turned the browse master on to one machine and off on all others and made netbuie the default. Thing is, the machine not getting acces is now showing up with the new name on the others, and the formatted machine cannot acces the network at all anymore. Not even seeing itself or the group! Scratching my head here!!

Can it do anything on the network? Like TCP/IP stuff.. surfing, email, ping, etc? Or is the network card just not working (link light, but no data)? You may need to install an IRQ miniport driver for the motherboard.

It does nothing at all. I get network not accessible. Earlier today I could at least get the network name to show up. The card is working. I have pinged it from dos. The weirdest part is this was working before I formatted. 4 other computers can find the name even when I change it. But they can't access it. Pretty much as you put it, "link light, but no data" What is IRQ miniport driver for the motherboard?

A driver that takes care of some issues with Win9x and IRQ ports on motherboards that have VIA chipsets. What kind of motherboard are you using in the formatted machine?

This sounds exactly like problems I've had with some motherboards at work. Drove me up the wall until my boss strolls along and starts asking me questions and I finally remember to install the darn thing.

edit: VIA calls it an IRQ Routing Driver on their webpage.

I will look at the motherboard and get back tomorrow. This machine did this before and the linksys cs helped me. This time they are just saying card is fine and the rest is up to me. Where do i find the drivers I need?
Thanks for the help.

You _only_ install the driver if you are using a VIA chipset. The MB manuf should have them for download, or you can get em from www.via.com.tw. I dunno if this is your problem or not, but it sure sounds familiar to me. Have fun ;)
