Format Hard Drive DOS disk

Help please. I have an old laptop which is running Windows XP, and a hard drive so full I can not defrag it and is very slow. This is my second computer and I just want to clear the Hard drive and start again and give it to my morther. I made a start up floppy disk and thought i could start up with that and then just format c: for it does not recognise the command.

How/where can I get a dos floppy with the format.exe file to clean the hard drive.

Thanks

Might need to run FDISK to delete existing partition then FORMAT to re-create

But if your laptop can boot from CD, you could just use the XP CD and re-install Windows, telling it to wipe the drive during the install.

Thanks for the bootdisk.com site. For what i want to do, can I choose dos 6.0 or should I select XP Quick Boot Diskette.
Thanks
