Format DVD-RW disk????

HI
I've asked some dumb questions before and this might be the worst one yet!
Do you have to format a DVD-RW disk before you use it the first time??? 😱
I ask because I've tried to use them before and was never able to use them more then 2 or 3 times before they just froze up on me.
I am using a Plextor PX 708-a dvd burner. I updated the firmware a few months ago so that should be ok.
Thanks

Wipe the DVD. Use DVD ROM ISO format (multi-session). Unlike packet writing stuffs, you do not need to format the DVD. Leave the disc OPEN if you want to add more data at a later time. Also use high quality media. Bad media can have problem with reading.

I wouldn't use -RW for drag 'n' drop writing as the standard lacks any hardware defect management. At the least they should only be used with a DRT-DM compliant drive. But better to use +RW with a MRW drive (Mount Rainier/EasyWrite hardware) if possible, otherwise DVD-RAM. If -RW "must" be used then yeah, just write it all at once or multisession, preferably with UDF or both UDF (ISO 13346) & ISO 9660.

Just checked and the 708 does support DVD+MRW so get some +RW discs!
