Format after upgrade?

If you mean re-install a fresh copy of Windows, then I would. You can try using your existing Windows OS but chances are you'll run into problems when booting up.

You would noramally reinstall Windows if you have switched to a different chipset. If you changed your mobo from nForce 3 754 to NF3 939 then you should be ok. However, if you have an NF4 then you might want to reinstall.

FWIW:
I went from an NF3 board to the Asrock Dual SATA2 board (Uli chipset), and a Windows repair worked perfect.

At the same time I went from an old AMD 761 (Socket-A) to the NF3 board, and the repair didn't work. Had to do a completer reformat. I was able to boot into safe mode and save files if needed (I had already done this though).

I would try it as is - if it works, smile! If it doesn't work - reformat and reinstall.
