format 286 laptop??

How do I format a 286 laptop HDD? I can't boot to a DOS prompt on the HDD and I don't have a boot disk that will work. The only boot disk that I have is a command boot disk for a pentium, I think that a 286 won't use the same disk.

Have you tried formating, with the system files, a floppy as a 720K floppy? Sometimes you have to cover the hole on the floppy to get it to work right, not the write protect hole-the other one.
