Title says it all

Forgot my MSN/passport account password. Luckily MSN 6.0 is set to autologin so it is still stored somewhere in my system. I need a legit tool that can quickly retrieve it. Something preferably sourceforge like or that which I can trust. No sub7'ish tools but will stoop to them if needed (and clean format afterwards lol).

Danke.

i did this to one of my friends once. just go letter by letter. ie) delete the first dot, replace it with a character and see if it works. repeat until you have it.

Only one problem MSN 6.0 DOES NOT display that box with asterisks. It just has a "sign in" button that you click and it signs in.

There is no where in which the password is displayed in asterisks. I need something that will read my registry.

Or maybe I'll resort to a packet sniffer eventually (sends in cleartext from what I hear) but I DONT want to search through packets if I can avoid it.

Good strategy if it doesn't suspend your account after x failures...

LeetViet -- Where? Is MSN 6.0 set to remember your password and autologin? How on earth would you see your password then?

I'm confused.

Still can't get my password though :(

Beau -- So once I'm logged in with MSN 6.0, and goto passport.net the cookies and stuff will recognize who I am, and let me change it WITHOUT using my old password?

I'm currently on another PC so can't try it right now until you can tell me yes/no. Reason is I put too many "toolz" on there and want it to be on the net minimal time so I can quickly change the password on this secure rig. Avoiding trojans and such.

I logged into hotmail and tried to change the password through the options but it requires the old password still :\

Should, but it should also let you reset it if you've forgotten it. You'll probably be asked a security question that you answered when you first signed up.

NM.

Tried it but I never used that feature when I signed up 6 years ago.

If I can't find a sniffer tool I'm SOL it looks like :(

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? :p

If I can even somehow get it to show my password in asterisks I know a billion of programs that can decode that...

If you want a packet sniffer, use ethereal....just start it, log in, stop it, and find the password if it's send cleartext....not much else should be there if you do it fast enough.

Hrm, weird.
Looks as though its not on autologin but rather its saved in my XP profile somehow or another. When I click on "sign in" and select my account from drop down, the password field does _not_ fill up.

And yet I don't enter my password...so its definitely in my windows account somewhere...

anyone know of any generic tools to retrieve passwords stored in the accounts?
I'm willing to use "toolz" moreso than ever now.
