http://www.elcomsoft.com/

They seem to be good programs, it's not freeware but you get a free trial. Might be some limitations on it such as pw length, can't remember as it's been a long time since I've used it. Sorry, I don't know any freeware apps.

If there was free software that could open the PW on a zip file, what would be the point of passwording it in the first place?

Zip file security is pretty easy to crack, unlike RAR which is much stronger.

Did a quick Google, you might want to do the same because there's loads of hits. But here's one that is freeware, though you need to submit your email to get the reg key, so use an account that's for junk if you try it out. Didn't find any spyware from it.

What kind of errors? Is it possible there's something wrong with your zip file itself?

Just go to the site that the torrent is registered with, and get the password!

Not sure what else to say, I don't work with password-protected zip files very often, largely for the problem you're having (forgetfulness). But it sounds to me like something else is going on if you're getting errors. That second link I posted, I'm trying that app right now on a little zip file I made up, zero errors. If you try and extract the files does it give any message other than it wants a password? Like a CRC or something? I'd suggest TESTing it, but well you need the pw lol.

Heh. Still though, zip encryption isn't really all that swank, unless you used something really convoluted and long a good cracking util can rip through it in no time (assuming you've got a decent CPU).

Winzip 9 high encryption is not the same as standard zip encryption. It is *much* stronger and you'll need something that uses a "brute force" method.

If elcomsoft doesn't have a password breaker for it, you're most likely SOL.
